Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a vast, open world adventure filled with secret areas containing rare loot. There are several puzzles within the game that can confuse players if they don’t pay attention. Once you set foot in Rivain Coast, you can pick up the Warden Vault side quest inside Grey Wardens castle. For this quest, you need to locate and solve puzzles to activate the locks that will unlock the Vault. In this guide we will show you how to solve all the puzzles and open the Warden Vault in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
How to Start The Warden Vault Side Quest In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The Warden Vault side quest starts with reading a note located near a locked vault in the Grey Wardens castle. The Grey Wardens castle is on the far east side of the Rivain Coast map. Enter the castle and make your way to the courtyard in the center. There is a flight of stairs leading down on the west. A Blistering Drakestone will be blocking your path, use the Dragonfire ability to melt it down. Head down the stairs some more and you will come across a locked vault and a note on the ground.
To complete the quest, you need to locate and activate three locks in and around the castle, and there are some puzzles to solve as well.
All Lock Locations & Puzzle Solutions To Unlock The Warden Vault
First Lock Puzzle Solution
You need to alight three torches and keep them blazing to solve the puzzle. To locate the torches,
- Exit the courtyard and head north,
- Then immediately turn to the left and enter the small doorway.
- Turn left again after going through the second doorway and immediately turn left again.
- You will spot a small alcove blocked by a wooden cart.
- Break down the cart and the wooden crates inside to reveal the three torches.
To solve the puzzle, you have to light up the torches in the following order: Left, Right & lastly, Middle.
Exit the alcove and continue up the stairs on the left. On your left you will spot some wooden planks, climb on top of those and walk across the platform. Enter the doorway on the right and pull the lever near the door. Enter the now opened door and activate the lock on the wall.
Second Lock Puzzle Solution
For the second lock puzzle, you need to visit the gravesite of the three green spirits in a particular order.
- Head back to the courtyard and enter the right side doorway across the area. Follow the passage and exit out the left side to find the first ghost.
- For the second ghost location, head back to the area with the wooden planks and the torch puzzle. After going up the stairs towards the planks, turn right and enter the passage to find the second ghost.
- For the final ghost location, go down the stairs and head straight, then enter through the doorway on your right to find it.
- After that, head back to the courtyard and you will spot the ghost one last time. Interact with the ghost and it will unlock a secret area, where you can activate the second lock.
Third Lock Puzzle Solution
For the last puzzle, find and guide a Wisp towards a skeleton. Exit the secret room and go through the door on the left where you encountered the ghost puzzle. Once you reach the ghost puzzle location, you will spot a passage on your left that you can go through. You will come across a doorway on your right. Enter the doorway and make your way down the staircases.
Exit out the left side and enter the door on the right. After going down the stairs, turn right and look up at the building behind the statue. Ignite the fire pot resting on the wall above to create an explosion. A ladder will be revealed to you to help you go up. Once you are up, collect the Wisp at the corner of the room.
You need to bring the wisp to a skeleton located nearby. Head back down and go back up the stairs on your left and immediately turn left. Just past the doorway is another Blistering Drakestone. Melt the stone and go up the stairs to find the skeleton behind a broken wall. Send the wisp across to complete the third puzzle, and activate the final lock.
All Treasures Within the Warden Vault
Now that you have activated all three locks, you can head back to the vault area and unlock it. Inside are three treasure chests, and you can get the following items from each of them.
- Crookytail’s Crest Unique Ring
- Weisshaupt’s Wall +4 Common Heavy Armor
- Trussed Finery +4 Rare Medium Armor (Taash)
