A new Nintendo leak is not an extraordinary occurrence on the internet, the most recent one points to the Switch 2 supporting a whooping 120Hz display with compatibility for VRR and HDR. At the end of the day, we are dealing with a rumor so take every bit of information with a large grain of salt. Here’s what we learned from the leak:
- 120 Hz Refresh Rate
- High Dynamic Range Support
- Variable Refresh Rate Support
- Instead of OLED, Switch 2 will be equipped with LCD
With the hype machine for the console running at an all-time high, the expectation for the machine is also seeing an increase. The latest Nintendo spec leaks come from the user SecretBoy on the Famiboard Forums. One of the reasons why the user has been trustworthy is because of his previous predictions on the Switch 2 coming true with high accuracy. The user predicted the GPU performance of the Nintendo machine long before the actual official reveal.
Regarding the Switch 2 display features, SecretBoy writes:
“I’ve also heard that the screen is a 120Hz LCD that supports VRR though, which is amazing because developers can optimise the handheld profiles of their games with VRR and 40 fps in mind.”
SecretBoy also detailed some more information regarding the TFLOP details of Switch 2, by stating:
“I think handheld is actually between 1.4 and 1.5 TFLOPs but I didn’t write any of this down (because Nintendo ninjas be scary). It’s still closer to a 2x gap though.“
One of the big reveals is the replacement of OLED with LCD, which makes sense as the cost of pushing the OLED will be higher compared to the LCD variant. Switching to LCD could result in a smoother gaming experience compared to the OLED versions. The response times of LCD are faster than OLED, and adding the support for 120 HZ with VRR and HDR support, Switch 2 is up for a peak-level gaming experience.
The latest leaks paint a pretty positive picture of the direction of the new console in the ever-changing tech market.
