Zach Cregger is the director of the next Resident Evil movie, and he’s gone on record a few times showcasing his love for the series. And based on recent reports, he’s already played (and beaten!) the franchise’s latest release twice over. But that’s not something that can be said about the previous Resident Evil title, as Cregger “noped out” of RE8.
The launch of Resident Evil: Requiem is still very fresh in people’s minds, releasing on February 27th of this year. Feels like an eternity in the internet’s timescale, but that was only 17 days ago. In that time, Cregger bought and beat Requiem twice over.

This information comes to us through Destiny Jackson, a writer for Deadline that met up with the Resident Evil director.
“I fulfilled a lifelong dream of meeting the whitest kid I know!” Jackson posted on X, writing that she “talked to him about Resident Evil Requiem (he said he beat it twice already!)”
In a reply to that post, Jackson continued: “He said the scariest one is RE 8, he noped out.” Apparently, the part that did him in was House Beneviento – aka, the one with all the creepy dolls in it.
When a fan inquired about the cause of the nope-ing, Jackson replied: “It was the dollhouse! Lol he said he played in VR and had to throw the headset across the room.” But despite all the dolls in the level, those dolls might not have been to blame for this particular scare.
“He said something about a baby, too.”

Perhaps this means we’re less likely to see anything fetus-esque in the upcoming movie. But given Resident Evil’s general focus on distinctly adult-shaped zombies, such an appearance was unlikely to begin with.
Next Resident Evil Movie’s Contents Remain Mysterious, But We’ve Gotten Hints

Zach Cregger has spent a lot of time with Resident Evil games, but apparently, the Anderson movies don’t have a place on his palette.
We have gotten some leaks though – if believed, the film is to be set during the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3. They’re the ones that focused on the Raccoon City outbreak. Those games also got remakes in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
And speaking of 4-digit numbers beginning with 2, Cregger’s movie is scheduled for a release in 2026. But as of yet, the film doesn’t have a released trailer. Information about the movie, while present, is largely speculative.
It’s clear that it comes from a place of love for the series, and that it intends to distance itself from previous Resident Evil film flops – and if it releases this year, we won’t have to wait too long to judge its quality for ourselves.
