Ninja Gaiden is heading back to the roots with the announcement of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a 2D side scroller that will take the series back to the very beginning. If you have your heart set on side-scrolling platformer games, you shouldn’t miss out on the Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. Here is what we know about the game so far:

    • The game will feature smooth 2D pixelated animation.
    • Ragebound will carry the legacy of the original Ninja Gaiden by bringing the fast-paced combat with the combo counter to create engagement in the gameplay.
    • Movement variety, such as sliding and wall climbing, will add a new layer to the combat and challenges.
    • You will get to play as Kenji Mozu and Kumori. Both will have their own distinct action style.
    • The game will feature various unique boss fights, unique levels, and new enemy encounters.

The last side-scrolling Ninja Gaiden game came out 33 years ago, the modern one has a lot of weight to carry. The game is being made by Koei Tecmo, Dotemu, and Game Kitchen, developers of Street of Rage and Blasphemous.

Director David Jaumandreu has this to say about the upcoming Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound:

“What we are trying to do with this game is combine the classic elements that defined Ninja Gaiden as a classic, and combine them with the more modern stuff the 3D series brought to the table, so mixing that immediate straightforward precise gameplay, with new new kinds of skills and, of course, new quality of life to bring it up to the standards of the present era.

A lot of studios with 2D side-scrolling experience have partnered up to deliver the game that will hopefully hold up to the name Ninja Gaiden – a name that has become synonymous with brutal difficulty and fast-paced action. The game will be released on PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and Steam. The specific release date is not revealed in the trailer, but the game is set to arrive this summer.
