The classic Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 that revitalized FPS gaming will now become part of the Xbox Subscription. You can expect to see the 2009 Modern Warfare in the Game Pass library in March or April of this year. The story first came to the surface in Xboxera but later got confirmed by Insider Gaming.
- It is still unknown whether the Game Pass version will feature the multiplayer portion of the game.
- Since the game has a remastered release, Game Pass might offer the original or the remastered version of the game.
The remastered version of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 released back in 2020 didn’t feature the multiplayer portion of the game, while the original version had both the multiplayer and the single-player campaign. Game Pass could include both releases or opt-out of the original for the multiplayer experience.
Rumors surround other classic Call of Duty games heading to the subscription package as well, especially around Call of Duty: World at War coming in May of this year. But none of the rumors are confirmed by any verifiable group, so take it with a grain of salt.
As of now, Game Pass has Modern Warfare released in 2023, and COD: Black Ops 6 released last year as the only games from this franchise. When Modern Warfare (2009) does show up on the Game Pass, we can only hope the rest of the catalog will slowly make its way to the subscription package.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 holds 94 on Metacritic, holding an overwhelmingly positive review from users and critics alike. The most recent entry in the series, COD: Black Ops 6 released in Oct 2024 did it’s part of adding back to the franchise, with one of the largest and most successful launches for COD. The game also introduced the new omnidirectional movement system in terms of major gameplay changes.
