Tents will become your source of shelter while you are out exploring, as you can use them to set up a temporary base and also store your items. But locating tents is a rare occurrence, and this guide will detail where to locate tents in DayZ.
All Tent Types & How To Get In DayZ
There are several types of tents that you can get while playing DayZ, and you can come across them while exploring the map. Below are the tents you can get and where you can find them.

| Canopy Tent | Amusement Parks, Towns | Can be used to store larger items and has a 150 slot capacity. There are six openings to this tent and you can open one or several to keep items in. |
How To Find Tents In DayZ
Highly populated servers will not yield many results in locating tents, so it is best to server hop till you find one that isn’t as dense. If that isn’t possible, then the only way to get a tent quickly is to steal them from other players. You should look through dense forests or on the top floor of apartments to locate tents, then steal them.
Sometimes, these tents are camouflaged, so you really need to scan the area and pay attention to any player movement to spot a tent. If you are looking for an easier way to get a tent, head over to a Persistence Off server, collect a tent, then return to a Persistence On server with your loot.
How To Dismantle & Repair Tents
Tents can be dismantled and carried in your inventory when you wish to move. Before you try to dismantle a tent, make sure that there are no items or accessories within the tent’s storage. After that, head inside the tent to find a packed tent bundle and hover over it to get the option to pack a tent. To repair a tent, you will require a Sewing Kit and Duct Tape, then interact with the section of the tent that requires repairs to mend it.
How To Craft A Makeshift Shelter
If finding tents is hard to come by and you require a quick getaway from the elements, you can craft Shelters. There are three types of shelters, and each can be crafted if you have the Shelter Kit. Just place the Shelter Kit down and collect other necessary materials to craft a shelter. We have listed all the shelter types and materials required below.
- Improvised Shelter – 4x Long Wooden Stick, 50x Short Stick
- Leather Shelter – 4x Long Wooden Stick, 8x Tanned Leather
- Tarp Shelter – 4x Long Wooden Stick, 4x Tarp
Like a tent, Shelters can also be dismantled, but they cannot be picked up once destroyed. All crafting materials that you used cannot be recovered. Make sure that the storage slots of the shelters are empty first before you go ahead and dismantle them.
