Mega Evolution is back in Pokémon Legends Z-A, and that means there are tons of Mega Stones to hunt down again. One of them is Ampharosite, which lets Ampharos turn into its powerful Mega form during battles.
Pokémon Legends Z-A: Where To Find Ampharosite

You get Ampharosite during Main Mission 23: A Rogue Mega Ampharos. In this mission, you’ll face off against a Rogue Mega Ampharos, a powerful Electric and Dragon-type Pokémon.
Defeating it is the only way to obtain the Ampharosite Mega Stone in Pokémon Legends Z-A. Before reaching this point, the story takes a short break after Mission 20, where you’ll need to deal with three different Rogue Mega Evolutions. Ampharos happens to be one of them, so be prepared for a tough fight.
Before you battle the Rogue Mega Ampharos, you’ll need to fight Gwynn of the Fist of Justice again. She specializes in Ghost-type Pokémon, so having strong Dark-type moves on your team will help a lot. Gwynn’s lineup during the battle will be as follows:
- Banette (Level 46): Ghost
- Gourgeist (Level 46: Ghost/Grass
- Gengar (Level 46): Ghost/Poison
- Mega Chandelure (Level 47): Ghost/Fire
Once you defeat Gwynn, you and Naveen will move on to face the Rogue Mega Ampharos. If you’ve caught or trained a Beldum earlier in the game, this is a good time to bring it along since it can hold its own against some of the Electric-type attacks in this battle.
It’s a fierce opponent with a mix of Electric and Dragon-type moves, making it a serious challenge if you don’t come prepared. Having a solid game plan and knowing when to switch your Pokémon can make a big difference in how smoothly the battle goes.

The best way to handle this battle is to bring along Mega Excadrill, since it’s particularly effective against Mega Ampharos. Other Pokémon like Feraligatr and Meganium won’t be too useful here, so it’s better to bench them for this fight.
There’s also a key mechanic to note: Rogue Mega Battles are built around using your own Mega Evolved Pokémon. If you don’t use one, the battle can drag on for a long time, making it harder to win efficiently. Once you defeat the Rogue Mega Ampharos (Level 48), you’ll automatically receive Ampharosite as your reward.
How To Use Ampharosite in Pokémon Legends Z-A

After earning Ampharosite, you can finally use it to Mega Evolve your Ampharos. The process is simple, just give it to your Ampharos as a held item. Once it’s holding Ampharosite, it can Mega Evolve during battles whenever possible. If you’re not sure how to give items to your Pokémon, here’s what you need to do:
- Open the Main Menu.
- Head to your Boxes.
- Find your Ampharos.
- Tap on it and select “Give an item to hold.”
- Go to the Mega Stones tab and locate Ampharosite.
- Choose it and select “Give to Pokémon.”
Once this is done, your Ampharos will be holding Ampharosite. Now, whenever you bring it into battle, you’ll be able to activate its Mega Evolution.
Getting Ampharosite in Pokémon Legends Z-A isn’t too complicated, but it does require some preparation and strong team planning. With Ampharosite equipped, your Ampharos gains the power to Mega Evolve into Mega Ampharos, adding serious strength and versatility to your team.
