Equipment locations are not widely known while playing Dying Light: The Beast, and trying to get the most important ones might take a bit of time. The Grappling Hook has made a comeback in the game, but isn’t available from the start. Rather, you need to wait a bit and keep playing the game till you get the right opportunity to find it. This guide will detail where to get the grappling hook in Dying Light: The Beast.
How to Get the Grappling Hook in Dying Light: The Beast

The Grappling Hook is obtained after completing the Some Like It Dark main story quest. This is the eighth quest in the main mission, so it will take some time before you arrive at this juncture in the game. You need to be level 6 and above to handle the Villa area, which is where the quest takes you. Once here, you will meet Sven, who needs your help locating the missing scouts. Completing the quest will give you the grappling hook blueprint as a reward.
How to Upgrade Grappling Hook

To upgrade the grapple hook, head over to any workbench to do so. The closest workbench is right where you spoke to Sven. Interact with the bench to get the blueprint menu and select the grapple hook. Upgrading it to a Rare tier requires 1x Beginner Manual Page, while upgrading it to Epic tier requires 1x Intermediate Manual Page.
Upgrading the hook also unlocks the ability to pull enemies towards you, and the higher the Tier, the more advanced the pull action. This pairs really well with the Head Smash ability, and you can use this combo to knock down enemies pulled towards you.
How to Use Grappling Hook
Aim and press or hold the Wheel button (PC)/ LB (Xbox)/ L1 (PS) on any surface to use the grappling hook. First, add the grappling hook to your tool menu in the inventory, which makes it easier to access it via the weapon wheel. Pressing the button just attaches the hook, which allows you to pull yourself to the latched surface. Holding the button lets you swing using the hook’s rope, which makes map navigation easier.
Also, using the respective button will pull enemies towards you if you aim and shoot the hook towards them. This is especially useful while dealing with singular enemies in combat. Each time you use the grapple hook, you lose a bit of stamina in the process.
