The first run in Nightregin will be a difficult venture, you will get pummeled by many enemies, even the small ones. The approach to the Nightreign is different from the previous From Software’s soul-like entries. The game demands healthy preparation, near perfection, before making it to the second day. Here, in the guide, we have detailed all the things that need to be done for an adult execution of a proper run in Nightreign.
Head to Base Camp

The game will always drop you near the base camp, you ain’t going to see these camp locations on your map. But they are very critical of the earlier session, every run on Nightreign, the game will always drop you near the base camps. These camps will be overrun by a couple of small-time enemies. It won’t take too long to make the camp demon-free. The primary reason why we must head to base camp is to get the runes, along with some goodies from chests.
After killing the enemies, pick up the loot from the treasure chests. You don’t have to add everything to your inventory if you don’t find the item useful for your character. Just leave the item you don’t desire and pick up the item necessary for your survival.
Upgrade Your Character
The next thing to do is to find a Site of Grace to level up your character and restore your health. You can also just run by them to quickly replenish your health and upgrade your character.
Camp in later areas will feature bosses that will drop different elemental weapons. You can always zoom into the map to see the type of elements the camp has, you will find fire or lightning signs to indicate the type of element found in the camp. If you have a specific weapon in mind, you can search the camp, head there, defeat the boss, and that’s it.
Tip: Always be on the lookout for the element that is a weakness to the Night Lord. Then make your way to the location containing the elemental items, either on foot or by taking the spectral hawk tree. Head to the Expedition menu to see the elemental weakness for your Night Lords. Then, prioritise these locations for getting a higher chance of drops in elemental items.
Upgrade Weapons
Most camps will hold a merchant selling basic smithing stones, which will help you upgrade your basic armaments. You will find an anvil in the location to carry out your weapon upgrades. Upgrading your weapon will help make the first day’s boss fight a bit easier. The limitation to upgrade stays at +2; you can’t upgrade anything past +2 with basic smithing stones.
Hit the Church for Flask Upgrades

Churches are key places as they hold an extra Crimson Flask Charge. These churches will always be near the cliff, since the zone is getting smaller, doing the churches for the later section will block out the access to them. Always set them as your first priority before anything else. Having 7 flasks on you on day 3 would be considered an optimal run, so in your first two days, you should aim for all churches.
Go into the Mines

The mines can be very tricky to deal with, since there is no endpoint to them. That’s why they need to be handled on day 1 instead of pushing to day 2. Mines are a great source for Smithing Stones, just like in the base game. The boss at the end of the mine is mostly a troll or a knight. One Smithing Stone 2 can take your rare weapon to legendary, in colour terms, purple to gold.
Farming for Runes and Items
Raiding a small camp at the start makes for a good amount of rune farming early on in the game. But as the day progresses, you need to hit bigger targets, which are cathedrals and forts.
Both feature a good amount of enemies to give more than a decent amount of runes and item drops. While doing the whole thing solo will take some time, if you are raiding with your friends, then the entire area can be cleared within a minute or two. You will face tougher bosses in these areas; it’s better to skip them, especially when doing them solo.
Tips For a Run

There are plenty of things you need to watch out for before heading into Nightreign. The game will be difficult, so we will feature some of the best tips to make your run a bit easier. Since you are always running out of time, prioritise and move, don’t stop and take a breather.
- Focus on taking care of the outside of the map before heading in.
- Once you find runes from a camp or fort, castle, or anywhere, head to the Grace to level up. Don’t conserve them for a large boost; always level up once you possess enough runes.
- Pick up the weapons if they hold a buff that matches your character.
- Use the consumables, remember it is a roguelike, don’t treat it like a souls-like game, don’t save the consumables for later on, use them as quickly as possible.
- Break all the boxes in churches and in other places they will contain loot, you don’t have to use your sword to do it, just running at them will break them easily.
- Use your class’s standard abilities; they will deal a huge amount of damage and will change the direction of the fight. Wylder’s have a grapple hook, Guardians have an AOE tornado, and Recluse can let out a charged-up spell.
- Avoid invasion spots on the map; any camp with a green orb is a welcoming place for invasions. Ignore them.
- Don’t take part in any Shifting Earth events on your first day; save it for the second day.
When exploring Limveld, you are also likely to come across Mage Towers. You will need to locate Crests nearby to unlock these, check our guide here to list all possible locations where the Crest can be around a Mage Tower.
