Anomalies in The Alters are invisible, and they will fill your body with radiation if you get close to them. Luckily, when you get close to them, your backpack will have a red exclamation mark to help you alert you that you are in a dangerous area filled with anomalies. Here in this article, we will help you fight back against Anomalies in the Alters.
Research and Craft Luminator
The game does allow you to get rid of anomalies and extract resources from them, but you need to build specific equipment to make that happen. When you first run into anomalies, you will get a research titled Internal Analysis Tool. Research the technology and then head to the Workshop to create Luminator (x20 Metal and Rapidum).
There are two ways we can use the Luminator in the game: we can use it to detect anomalies and run away, or use the Luminator to destroy the anomalies completely. The latter route produces a special type of material that can be used in the base; while the first one is faster and consumes no energy.
Detect Anomalies and Run Away
Once you have your Luminator in hand, head out to the anomaly areas. Press Q to open the tool tab, select Luminator. You will soon see Luminator in its idle mode. The colour from the Luminator will help you detect small orbs and the invisible layers around them for anomalies. Once you know the size of the anomalies, you can easily move past them. You can put the Luminator in its idle state to locate the anomalies, so you can get out of the area without touching them.
Detect Anomalies and Destroy
But if you don’t want to leave empty-handed, instead of running away, press the Aim button while holding the Luminator, now focus the crosshair onto the ball inside the anomalies.
Note: When you use the Luminator to destroy the anomalies, you will lose energy on your suit. Make sure to carry some suit batteries if you are planning to do some anomaly slaying. Simply holding the Lumintaor doesn’t cost any energy, but once you aim at anomalies, you will start to lose energy from your suit. You can then press the R key to recharge when you run out of energy for the Lumintaor.
After a few seconds, the Luminator will destroy the invisible layer around the ball, and soon you will see the small purple ball drop to the ground. Pick it up, and you will receive a new material called ALX.
Not all anomalies will move the same way; some will stay idle, some will be latched onto the ground. One in particular you need to keep an eye out for is the anomalies that like to stay on the ground without moving. Soon, you come across one of them, the game will mark it on the map with a pink question mark, which can lead to unlocking a special item in the game.
