What would a Bethesda RPG be without side quests that have you picking a choice at the very end? What Starfield has in Shattered Space to fill in the above expectations is a side quest The Duel. It is a fun little side quest that does not take too much of your time and keeps you nicely engaged for the time that it lasts. If you picked up one choice and are wondering what selecting the other ones would have led to, then we have your questions answered here. In this guide, we look at The Duel side quest and give our opinion of who should you tranquilize in the end.
All Endings For The Duel Quest: Who Should You Tranquilize?
The game offers you four options:
Tranquilize Amila: If you decide to tranquilize Amila, then Borhal wins. He expresses grief at the end, and Danika is obviously upset and tells you that this is not how this was supposed to end. You do get 5000 Credits & 200 XP for this ending.
Tranquilize Borhal: The opposite happens in this case, Amila wins. He looks relieved at the end, indicating that he himself was possibly not expecting to survive the duel. Danika is predictably upset like in the outcome above. The rewards for you are also identical: 5000 Credits and 200 XP.
Tranquilize Both: Both brothers start feeling weak and dizzy and call off the duel. No one dies, and Danika is super happy with the outcome. This is the ‘good’ option if that’s the kind of character you are role-playing. This decision gives you slightly higher XP, but only 4000 Credits. Hey, but you saved a life and that’s great, right?
Tranquilize None: If you allow a fair fight to happen, then Borhal wins. The reactions from Borhal and Danika are the same, and so are your rewards at 5000 Credits and 200 XP.
We picked up the Tranquilize Both option, and it fit the character that we were playing: a true-blue hero doing his best to make a difference to the world around him! So yes, while we recommend this option, you can of course go ahead and pick one that works with your character the best. If Credits is what you are eyeing then any of the other options should be good to go.
In case you have not started this quest, we have put up the details below of how to reach the point where you are given the above options.
How To Start Starfield The Duel Quest
You will find this side quest while wandering around in Jinan Plaza, right next to the big statue in the middle. You will find two men and a woman, who turn out to be brothers and sisters engaged in a heated conversation. Approach them and hear out the argument. This officially begins The Duel quest in Starfield Shattered Space.
It so turns out that Amila & Borhal Adlam are having a go at each other, till finally Borhal loses patience and challenges Amila to a duel, with Danika – the sister, being her second. While Danika tries to talk Borhal out of it, Amila almost gladly accepts the challenge.
Follow Danika
Follow Danika who will instruct you that their work is to prepare and ensure fairness when the duel takes place, and she still harbors hope of working out a peaceful resolution to the quarrel. She will then tell you that the only possible way out is if Amila apologizes, and Borhal accepts the apology.
Speak To The Two Brothers & Then To Danika
Your next task is to speak to the two brothers. Amila will be hanging out at the Herald’s Rest. He completely refuses to apologize. Next, speak to Borhal at the Adlam House, and like his brother, he will also not show any interest in finding a peaceful solution to this. When you return to Danika, she looks to have already foreseen that this is what will happen, and has an alternative way out of this: spike the ceremonial drinks before the duel with a tranquilizer, which then brings us to the point where the game asks you to select who should you tranquilize.
The Starfield DLC has its fair share of decisions that have consequences, like the one with Vaeric, or in the main quest Exhuming The Past. Do check out our guides on these topics if you are looking for all possible consequences before taking a decision in these quests.
