Silent Hill 2 Remake has a few changes to the original game of the same name, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the amount of puzzles to solve. With each new location, you will find new and some familiar (if you have played the original) puzzles to clear. Some puzzles will take you all around the locations as you collect several key items to solve them. Such is the case with one of the more complicated puzzles that you come across in Lakeview Hotel. In this guide, we have put up all the steps to help you solve the Locked Briefcase puzzle in Silent Hill 2 Remake.
Steps To Solve The Locked Briefcase Puzzle In Lakeview Hotel
To solve the Locked Briefcase Puzzle in Silent Hill Remake, follow these steps:
- Unlock the secret area in Lakeview Hotel Reading Room
- Find and collect the Bolt Cutter
- Find and collect the Light Bulb
- Find the Red Paint Can
- Use these items to get the code to the locked briefcase
- Use the code, unlock the briefcase and the puzzle is complete
Let’s go through each of these objectives in detail, starting with unlocking the area to access the Locked Briefcase Puzzle.
How To Unlock The Secret Room In Lakeview Hotel Reading Room
Make your way to Floor 2F in Lakeview Hotel and enter the Reading Room. You need to investigate all the corners of the room to get the following books located on top of various tables and within the bookshelf
- Stalwart to the End
- The One Who Soared
- Revelations: A New Understanding
- Pride Before the Fall
Once you have the four books, make your way to the bookshelf and investigate the furthest shelf to start a quick book puzzle. You need to place the books on the shelf using the correct order as mentioned below.
- Top shelf left side: Revelations: A New Understanding
- Top shelf right side: The One Who Soared
- Bottom shelf left side: Stalwart to the End
- Bottom shelf right side: Pride Before the Fall
The shelf will open up to reveal a secret room within. Investigate the room to get a photo of a hotel room door for Room #217 on a table. There are two other photos on the bed and the locked briefcase. The photos you have picked up are clues to finding the right key items to get the code for the locked briefcase
Bolt Cutters Location
This is an easy one; make your way to Floor 3F and enter the Utility Room to get the Bolt Cutters from the shelf.
Light Bulb Location
Visit the Lakeview Hotel Garden and from the entrance, head a bit straight and turn right. You will find a locked gate that can be opened using the Bolt Cutters you found earlier. Head inside and pick up the light bulb from the fish fountain.
Can Opener Location
Head back to the hotel and visit Floor 3F again. This time make your way through the passage between Rooms 318 and 319. Take the stairs down to the lower floor and enter the second floor. On your right will be Room 217, enter it and head out back to the balcony.
If you have a gun, use it to shoot the glass floor pane right where the orange book is. After that, head over to the LakeShore Restaurant on Floor 1F to find and open the orange book from before and get the Can Opener.
Red Paint Can Location
Much later into your exploration of Lake View Hotel, you can unlock Room 317 on Floor 3F. This room unlocks after you have cleared the objectives within the Conference Room, including beating the boss that appears here. From the Conference Room, make your way south to enter Room 317. Head out to the balcony and jump across the fence to enter Room 318. You will spot the Red Paint Can on the table here.
Briefcase Puzzle Solution In Silent Hill 2 Remake
Enter the secret room within the Reading Room again and visit the bedroom where the locked briefcase is. Right beside the bed is a vanity mirror. Head into your inventory and combine the can opener with the red paint tin to open it, then combine the red paint with the light bulb to get a Red Light Bulb. Attach the Red Light Bulb on the electric point of the mirror. You will get two unique answers depending on what difficulty you are playing
- Light Mode Puzzle Solution: DARK WISH
- Standard Mode Puzzle Solution: DEED DONE
