The Shadows on the Wall quest is a main story quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley. It begins after completing the A Forgotten Name quest. This quest requires players to explore the newly unlocked Skull Rock region and solve some puzzles and riddles.

Entering Skull Rock and Meeting the Shadow
Once you access Skull Rock, you’ll discover a pirate ship and strange glowing lights called Pixie Dust Orbs. Follow The Forgotten up the wooden ramp and speak with him.
Go left from where The Forgotten is standing. You will find a Broken Lantern buried in the sand. Use your Royal Shovel to dig it up and give it to The Forgotten, who will ask you to find more lanterns to attract the escaped orbs.

Locating and Repairing Lanterns
You’ll need to collect two more Broken Lanterns. You need to fish them out from the golden ripples on both sides of the dock by the pirate ship.
Once you have found all three Broken Lanterns, gather these materials:
- Gold Ingots x3 – Crafted from Gold Ore and Coal Ore
- Glass x9 – Crafted using Sand and Coal Ore
- Vitalys Crystals x9 – Mined in the Vitalys Mines
Use a crafting station to assemble three Pixie Dust Lanterns.
Catching the Pixie Dust Orbs
The next step is to retrieve the Pixie Dust Orbs scattered across the Valley. Their locations are:
- Near Mother Gothel’s tree in the Glade of Trust
- On the bridge in the Forest of Valor
- Between the ponds in The Forgotten Lands
Simply approach and interact with each one to collect it.
Placing Lanterns and Solving the Light Puzzle
Return to Skull Rock and go to the upper level. Place the three lanterns on the Rope Winches located in the following locations:
- Near the ramp
- Close to where the first lantern was found
- Next to The Forgotten
After placing them, rotate each winch so the light beams intersect on a specific spot near a stack of barrels. When aligned, a shadow will appear on the wall.
Try to interact with it, and it will gesture for help. Adjust the final lantern to direct its beam toward the sealed gate. The shadow moves there, activating some talking Jade Skulls.
Solving the Jade Skulls’ Riddles
To unlock the gate, answer three riddles given by the Jade Skulls. The correct answers are:
- A Pirate Ship – referencing a vessel that travels the sea
- A Pixie – a magical, winged creature
- A Pan Flute – a wind instrument linked to Peter Pan
Once you’ve solved them, turn the wheel near the gate. This opens the path forward and concludes the quest, leading directly into the next storyline: A Ship of Gold.
