When you start your rental movie business in Retro Rewind, you have limited space and resources to work with. The chunk of money you have is best spent on shelves and movies, letting you open the store and get through the first days. After you have income, you can start thinking about your store size.
The initial store size becomes limiting quickly. I ran out of space within a week of running my business, but the method behind adding onto your store is easy to miss if you aren’t looking at your surroundings, which I wasn’t at the beginning.
How to Buy Extra Store Sections in Retro Rewind – Video Store Simulator
In your office, there’s a board on the wall that has a map of your store, along with multiple sections that have prices on them. Those extra sections are available for purchase, and paying for them will increase your store size. Even the cheapest options are going to cost at least $1,000, which feels like a lot when you pull in roughly $200 a day at the start and need to keep getting the newest movies to rent out.

However, the amount of space you get with each section is larger than it seems from looking at the map. I went with the piece that makes my store wider rather than deeper first, and I ended up with enough space to more than double the shelves I could put up.
Store Size Purchase Limitations
The only limitation for purchasing these sections aside from cost is that you can’t purchase the sections on the map that are deeper until you purchase the ones before them. This makes sense, since you would otherwise be adding a section to your store that isn’t connected to your current store’s existing area. The game will throw up a message like the one shown in the image below if you try doing that.

In practice, the map’s design and increasing prices keep you from overwhelming yourself with too much space. Instead, you’re forced to pace yourself, which is better, as you are able to add to your store size, then build your movie collection with the new space before you buy your next section. After all, you should be focusing on the number and variety of movies you have available to rent before buying every space option, because rentals are the core of your business.
