Dragon Age: The Veilguard has a variety of potential end-game builds, and several weapons around which you can center these builds. One such is the Reptile Recurve Unique Shortbow. The way to get this is not the simplest: there is no treasure chest to loot or a vendor to purchase it from, instead, you must complete a side quest regarding Candlehops spread across Docktown.
How To Get The Reptile Recurve Unique Shortbow In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
After collecting all of these Candlehop notes(There are 7 of them in total) you will unlock a Timelost Hoards Chest which will contain the Reptile Recurve Unique Shortbow. Candlehops are enchanted mechanical structures used as a mode of communication to send messages across Docktown. When you start visiting Minrathous, you will begin to hear rumors of Candlehops holding notes sent by an anonymous individual appearing around Dock Town.
To get to all 7 Candlehops you will have to unlock more areas and that happens when you progress through the main story of the game.
Locations Of All 7 Candlehops In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The Candlehops appear after you complete the ‘Out Of Tune’ Side Quest. You can find more of them on your map after you complete ‘The Cobbled Swan Case’, the Neve companion quests and other Dock Town side quests that come after ‘A Hidden Hoard’ and the ‘Desperate in Docktown’ side quests.
There is no specific order in which you have to collect them. Additionally, you can still collect them even if you choose not to defend Minrathous.
Candlehop Location #1: Shadow Dragons Sanctum
This is perhaps the first Candlehop you might have stumbled across in The Shadow Dragons Hideout. The Candlehop is located right outside the pawn shop in the main room. You will have to complete the first quest in Dock Town to be able to access this area.
Candlehop Location #2: Near The Temple Courtyard
Traverse to the Temple Of Andraste in Dock Town and you will find another Candlehop near the temple located on the courtyard to its side, near the workbench. Remember that the Venatori can show up in this location depending on the in-game time(day-night cycle).
Candlehop Location #3: In The Warrens Area
This is one of the trickier Candlehops to locate in the whole of Dock Town. You have to look in between two scaffolds near the animal cages in this area to find a door. Right outside the door, you’ll find the Candlehop waiting for you.
Candlehop Location #4: At Aula’s Look
This Candlehop is found near the entrance of the Catacombs at Aula’s Lookout. Cross the docked boat and climb the wooden ledges to your right. You will find it on a raised wooden platform overlooking the sea.
Candlehop Location #5: In The Parthenius Main Dock
The Candlehop here is located inside the gated Dock Building. To access it, go to the ship anchored to its right, travel across the ship, go up through the small stairs and you will be in the building. The Candlehop will be located inside on the right. Use the lever inside the room to open the gate and make your way back.
Candlehop Location #6: Interior Of The Black Emporium
You will eventually receive an invitation from the Antiquarian to visit his Black Emporium shop. You will find the Candlehop located beside the large bone horn in the main room of the emporium.
Candlehop Location #7: In The Thread Market
You will need to complete Neve’s companion quests to access this area of the map. Once the Venatori barrier disappears, enter the Thread Market and you will find a Candlehop there.
What Happens After You Collect All 7 Candlehops In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
After collecting the last Candlehop you will be directed back to the Shadow Dragons Hideout.
After reading the last message, the Candlehop here will remove the Venatori barrier to its left. Upon entering this area, you will find a secret passage, and head up the stairs to claim your hard-earned reward!
The Timelost Hoard’s Chest will contain what you seek, the Reptile Recurve Unique Shortbow along with 2 Elfroots and one Golden Lion item. You will also find one Moment of Victory memento to the right of this secret room and a Candlehop maker Codex entry to the left.

The Reptile Recurve Unique Shortbow comes with a descriptor that says ‘Death drips off this serpentine bow’; and that is very much true since it applies Necrosis on the enemy with every hit from this shortbow.
