Pokémon Legends: Z-A: What Happens If You Leave Lumiose City?

Lumiose City is your only playground in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and you’ll find every Pokémon, every friend you can befriend and every secret you can uncover in this city itself. However, Game Freak has added an option to leave Lumiose City, if you wish to, even though the game doesn’t recommend it. This guide will show what happens if you leave Lumiose City and how to do so in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

What Happens If You Board The Train In Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

If you choose to exit Lumiose City by boarding the train, a cutscene will play out with you sitting on a bench, and a dialog box appears, which states, “How strange! You must have nodded off here on the bench”. Everything then goes back to normal. So, the real truth behind leaving Lumiose City is that it’s played off as a dream, rather than an actual consequence.

Truly leaving Lumiose City in Pokémon Legends: Z-A would mean leaving all your Pokémon, the Team MZ crew, your friends, and the mystery behind the Rogue Mega phenomenon. Playing the “leaving Lumiose City” scenario as a dream is a clever way for Game Freak to not show any real consequences to leaving the city, since you have so much unfinished business.

And yes, the result is the same even if you’ve completed the entirety of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Whether you’re early on in the game or have completed it, leaving Lumiose City will be played off as a dream and will put you on the same bench every time. There’s no use in trying, but if you want to see for yourself, here’s how you can do it.

You can leave Lumiose City by accessing the Gare de Lumiose train station and then boarding the train in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. You’ll find this train station at the southeastern end of Lumiose City. This train station connects the city to the airport, and you can board the trains here to leave the city. Once you reach the station, here are the questions along with the dialogue options you should pick to leave Lumiose:

    • A train bound for the airport waits at the platform. Do you want to leave Lumiose City?
    • Pick “Adieu, Lumiose!”
    • Are you sure? If you board that train, you’ll leave Urbain/Taunie and the others behind…
    • Pick “Adieu, Lumiose!”
    • You’ve got unfinished business here in Lumiose. It’s probably better not to leave. Do you really, really want to board that train anyway?
    • Pick “Adieu, Lumiose!”

This will trigger a cutscene with your character boarding the train with his/her bags and a dialogue box saying “You boarded the train bound for the airport! This is really it – adieu, Lumiose City…” and the next thing you know, you’re back at the bench outside the train station inside Lumiose City, with the above cutscene playing out.

That’s everything you need to know about leaving Lumiose City in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. For more comprehensive guides to help you stay inside and explore Lumiose City, check out the ones on How to Check Friendship Level and How to Evolve Riolu into Lucario in the game.

You'll probably find me writing on video games most of the time, but when I'm not writing, you can look for me in Marvel Rivals or inside the beautiful world of Expedition 33. Sometimes, you might catch me wandering around the mysterious town of Silent Hill too!
