When it comes to Path of Exile 2, each quest that you pick almost always has a boss fight at the end of it. Most bosses are easy to defeat, but for some, you need to learn their moveset and plan your attacks strategically. While completing the Treasures of Utzaal quest, you will encounter Mektul the Forgemaster. This boss fight can be a bit challenging, since the fight takes place near a pool of lava. In this guide we will show you how to complete the Treasures of Utzaal quest and defeat Mektul the Forgemaster in Path of Exile 2.
How To Start The Treasures Of Utzaal Quest In Path Of Exile 2
You first need to unlock the Drowned City, and that can be done by completing the Legacy of the Vaal main quest. During the quest, you will be led to the Matlan Waterways, which will help you drain the water from the Drowned City. You can then get to the City via Ziggurat Encampment. Now, for the Treasures of Utzaal quest, you need to find Oswald in Ziggurat Encampment and talk to him to unlock the quest. You can find Oswald by taking the flight of stairs in front of the Well all the way down.

Once you talk to Oswald, you will be directed to get to the Drowned City to start the Treasures of Utzaal side quest. You need to locate The Molten Vault within the Drowned City, but there is no indicator as to where to find it. You have to explore the entire map and take your time trying to find the vault. You can start from the outer sections of the city and work your way to the inside. The only way to tell that you have found the entrance to the Molten Vault is when you spot a bridge-like path that leads to a flight of stone steps. You will also spot a Summon Oswald portal near the entrance.
Interact with the summoning sign and Oswald will appear to tell you about your next task. You can now enter the Molten Vault to face the final boss of the level. But before that, head over to the Kamasa’s Crucible section of the vault to find a lever. This will drop a pot of molten gold that will eventually enter the boss’s arena. To find the arena, all you need to do is follow the path of molten gold. There will be some areas that are blocked off, making it difficult to continue. But, you can enter any opening on the sides, explore the area, and the path will eventually lead you to the other side where you can continue to follow the golden stream.
Mektul The Forgemaster Boss Fight Guide
You will soon reach the area where Mektul is, and to unlock the gate to enter the arena, you need to pull the Sluice Gate Lever. You can find the lever near the checkpoint, and right beside the checkpoint is the arena entrance. Now, for the fight, there is a time limit to how far you can stretch the fight. The fight is over if you take too long, as the arena will be filled with molten gold and continuously deal high Fire damage till you die.
Boss Fight Preparation
Before you begin the fight, you should optimize your build to deal cold damage and have fire and physical resistances. Using damage modifiers on your weapons and spells that will increase damage output. When it comes to supporting gems, prioritize damage over speed or other attributes, so utility gems will work well here. Prioritize using debuffs that will implement Exposure, Armor Break, and Wither, along with skills that will put Marks and Curses to weaken Mektul.
How To Beak Mektul The Forgemaster
When you begin the fight, you need to stay clear of all the molten gold that Mektul will push towards you. This can be easy to do, as the lava flow is a bit slow, so you have enough time to dodge. Try to avoid the pool of molten gold that is slowly inching its way towards you. Mektul doesn’t have a large attack pool, so his moveset is pretty predictable. He will slam down after pushing waves of molten gold towards you, so avoid getting close to him during that time. You can then quickly attack him before he summons rows of spikes from the ground up. These spikes can explode, but they will usually glow before they do that.
Avoid the spikes, then deal as much damage as you can. Mektul will take a while to regain himself, so you have a small window to land some hits. The entire process repeats itself, so try to beat him before the arena gets flooded. Eventually, Mektul will be down, and you can collect the Hammer of Kamasa from the loot drops. Return to Oswald and hand over the Hammer of Kamasa to complete the quest and receive your reward, which is an Uncut Skill Gem.
