There are a lot of options in the Shrine menu, with most of them being question marks at the start of the game. As you continue the main quest of Nioh 3, these question marks reveal themselves and introduce new options within the Shrine menu, such as Blessing, Skill Management, Onmyo Box, and more.

However, there are two options that are still locked, even though their name gets revealed in the menu: Enhance Soul Cores and Enhance Guardian. Underneath these two options, it says unlocked by completing Way of the Onmyo: Adept. Besides the clue, the game doesn’t tell you how to start that specific quest.

We have the answer for you here. Read further to learn how to start Way of the Onmyo: Adept in Nioh 3 so you can unlock Enhance Soul Core and Enhance Guardian.

There are a few prerequisites to unlocking Way of the Onmyo: Adept in Nioh 3. First, you must speak to Saito Fuko in Eternal Rift, who can be found in the east shed on the top floor, standing next to the Illustrations desk. After speaking to her twice here, she will give you the Way of the Onmyo: Novice quest.

Next, go to a shrine and select Battle Scroll to find the Way of the Onmyo: Novice quest and select it. This will bring you to a small arena, where you must defeat a group of monsters to complete the quest.

The next step in unlocking Way of the Onmyo: Adept is progressing the game and beating Takeda Shingen, the final boss of the Warring States region. After defeating this boss, you will be brought to an entirely new time period in a different region, Heian.

Once you reach the Heian region, you can officially begin the Way of the Onmyo: Adept quest by speaking to Saito Fuko at the Eternal Rift again. Once again, make sure to speak to her twice here to officially unlock the quest.

Just like before, go to a shrine and complete Way of the Onmyo: Adept by selecting Battle Scroll. You’ll be put up against harder enemies than last time, and the objective is to beat all of them in combat without dying. Once you complete it, you will unlock Enhance Soul Core and Enhance Guardian in the Shrine menu.

Enhance Soul Cores and Enhance Guardian Explained

Enhance Soul Cores and Enhance Guardian are very useful features in Nioh 3 that can improve your character’s build and make them stronger in combat.

They are exactly as they sound; Enhance Soul Cores allows you to upgrade Soul Cores, improving the abilities and buffs that they provide, and Enhance Guardian allows you to increase the overall strength of your Guardian, like its attack power and special effects.

To use both of these features, players will need to spend Soul Fragments. These materials can be obtained by performing Resting Rites from the Shrine menu, which involves discarding unwanted Soul Cores in exchange for Soul Fragments.

Keep in mind that as you upgrade Soul Cores and your Guardian, each level requires more Soul Fragments. Also, the rarer an item is, the more Soul Fragments it requires to upgrade. So, keep in mind that it may take a long time to fully level one up.
