Chapter 1 of Ninja Gaiden 4, titled Bloodsoaked Tokyo, kicks off the game with plenty of collectibles to find. Collecting everything not only helps you power up Yakumo early but also unlocks several trophies and achievements.
All Collectible Locations in Chapter 1: Bloodsoaked Tokyo in Ninja Gaiden 4

Chapter 1 includes multiple types of collectibles: Gourdies, Purgatory Gates, Health Upgrades, Missions, and Accessories. None of these are missable. You can replay chapters anytime through New Game+, and everything you pick up is saved automatically once you hit a checkpoint.
Overview of All Collectibles
Before getting into the exact locations, here’s a quick summary of what each collectible type does and which trophies or achievements they unlock:
- 15 Gourdies: Unlocks the Critter Collector trophy. These small beige creatures resemble gourds with teeth. Regular Gourdies can be captured by pressing the right button combo, while blue ones must be caught by sneaking up behind them.
- 18 Purgatory Gates: Unlocks Annihilator and Challenger of Challenges trophies. You’ll find one in almost every chapter. You can pick your difficulty each time you interact with one. It’s best to clear them on easier difficulties first, then return later when you’re stronger for the hardest mode.
- 10 Health Upgrades (20 Items): Unlocks the Ninja Fortitude trophy. Health upgrades are made from 1x Black Scale and 1x Phantasmal Herb, which combine automatically into a Dragon Lord’s Grace. You’ll find most of them in chests, while others come from completing missions.
- Missions: Unlocks Ninja Business and Work Horse trophies. Each chapter hides optional missions that are easy to miss if you stick to the story. Always check every DarkNest terminal for new missions and turn them in quickly, as some lead to new ones.
- Accessories: Not tied to trophies, but very useful. They grant special abilities and buffs. Some come from missions, while others are hidden in chests throughout the map.
Mission #1 – Execute the D.D.O. Distribution Officers

The first mission takes place in Sky City Tokyo. After you reach the area where you see a massive mechanical doll head floating in the sky, take the right path instead of following the story route to the left.
You’ll have to go right, then loop left again and perform two wall runs across large gaps. This path leads you to a dead-end alley with a giant fan blade in the background. The officer target is waiting here, defeat him and his guards to complete the mission.
Purgatory Gate #1

Before using the Caddis Wire for the second time to cross between two buildings, look to your left. You’ll see three dump trucks parked side by side. Run past them and turn left into a narrow alley.
Use the Flying Bird Technique to jump up onto the nearby rooftop. Once you’re on top, the first Purgatory Gate will be right in front of you. Interact with it to access a challenge battle.
Gourdy #1

After finding the Purgatory Gate, jump back down to the main path. Cross the gap using your Caddis Wire. Once you’re across, turn left instead of continuing to the right. You’ll spot the first Gourdy sitting in front of some boxes. Capture it to progress toward the Critter Collector trophy.
Accessory #1 – Cobalt Ring

Continue forward until you reach the point where you encounter your first surveillance drone, the ones that you can hook onto. You’ll notice some big flat screens behind it. Normally, the main route continues through a gate on the left.
Instead, head right and follow the side path. You’ll come to another dead-end alley with a chest at the end. Open it to find your first accessory, the Cobalt Ring, which grants useful combat bonuses early on.
Mission #2 – Find the Data Chip in Sky City Tokyo

The second mission appears later in the same area. When you reach the section with a troop carrier aircraft parked on a helicopter pad, look toward the far right corner of the area.
You’ll see three chests sitting close together. Just to the left of them, there’s a glowing data chip lying on the floor. Pick it up to complete the mission objective. It’s hard to miss since it’s directly along the main route.
Once you’ve picked up both missions, the first Gourdy, the Cobalt Ring accessory, and cleared the Purgatory Gate, you’ll have everything needed from this stage.
Since nothing in Ninja Gaiden 4 is permanently missable, you can always revisit this chapter later in New Game+ to grab anything you missed. Collectibles save automatically, so you don’t need to worry about losing progress after reaching each checkpoint.
