Ladies and gentlemen, we’re back with yet another guide for tracking down an object of interest in MIO: Memories In Orbit. As a Metroidvania, it shouldn’t be a surprise that MIO has a ton to collect and discover, but the Severed Fingertip specifically is a bit of a crazy one.
Thankfully, it’s not actually too challenging to recover at all, but figuring out what to do with it afterwards is where things get weird.
If you have questions about the Severed Fingertip, here’s everything you need to know. Just don’t start thinking too hard about why the fingertip is missing in the first place.

Where To Find The Severed Fingertip

It’s important to note that you can’t do any of the below until after you’ve defeated The Hand in MIO: Memories In Orbit.
To start off, you’ll want to head to the Overseer fast travel location in the Vaults. If you’re currently topside and can’t fast travel here, the closest Overseer location is the one at Promenade. You’ll just have to ride the world’s longest elevator to get all the way back down to the Vaults.

From here, head into the giant room to your right (called the Refinery), and drop down immediately to the large tube you can enter. Head on inside of it.

Your goal now is to go left for as far as you possibly can. This will take your all the way to the end of the first tube, which spits you out next to another tube. Enter this one and repeat the process, taking care to use Striders as needed to dodge things like standing Gloomwater.
You’ll soon exit this second tube as well. Just keep going left across a couple of easy platforming sections.

The area will darken, and you’ll be notified that you’re now in the Lab. Drop down the giant gap in the floor and head all the way to the bottom.
Just to switch things up, you’ll now be going right for as far as you possibly can. You’ll hit a couple sections of Gloomwater you need to glide over, but it’s easy stuff at this point.
Take careful note of the four severed hands roaming this area. They hit decently hard. If you’re really just in the mood to explore at this point in the game, consider using the assist to turn off random enemy hostility.
At the end of this area, you’ll need to use Striders to climb the wall/ceiling to bypass the Gloomwaterfall.

Keep going a bit further right, and you’ll be back in the arena where you defeated The Hand. Investigate the Unknown Object, and the Severed Fingertip is now all yours.
The end of this item description is your clue: “The wheel spins. The world changes.”
Using The Fingertip To Power The Wheel

The Severed Fingertip can be repaired, then used to power something called The Wheel. To complete this process, you’ll need to head to the Lab Overseer fast travel point.

From this Overseer, head directly upwards. You can use Striders to climb the decorative ironwork and head up through the hole in the ceiling.

Once in this next room, you’ll find a giant hand on the ground. This is The Wheel. Interact with it to repair the fingertip.

The Wheel/Hand then attaches itself to a giant, spinning wheel above. You are now able to adjust the alignment of the giant wheel.
Set it to 0 degrees, then head back to the Overseer below. To your left, you’ll notice a lost Overseer that you can send back to its home, The Vaults’ Shuttle fast travel location.
Climb back up after this and set the wheel to 120 degrees. Now, head to the Vault’s Shuttle checkpoint you just unlocked. To do so, you’ll have to climb up the now traversable giant shuttle tunnel that connects the upper and lower areas of the map.
After gaining your new checkpoint, go back to The Wheel and set it to 240 degrees, then back again to the Vaults’ Shuttle Overseer. Finally, Leroy Jenkins it and leap down the shuttle tube all the way to the bottom.
You’ve now reached The Crucible, which is the ultimate reward for going on this insane Severed Fingertip quest. Hope you enjoy insane platforming challenges, because The Crucible is about to test you.
