MIO: Memories In Orbit – How To Get The Silo Access Badge

Welcome, new challengers to MIO: Memories In Orbit, the latest Metroidvania on the market that is sure to put you to the test. As is tradition within the genre, MIO has plenty of blocked-off paths that you won’t be able to access until you meet a specific prerequisite.

Predominantly, these instances in MIO are actual locked doors and gates that you’ll need to find some sort of key or access badge for in order to unlock them and see what’s waiting on the other side. The first of which you’ll encounter is a doorway which requires the Silo Access Badge.

The only problem, of course, is that you have yet to locate said badge. Where could it be? Well, you’ve come to the right place for your answers.

Where Is The Silo Access Badge Door?

It will only take a matter of minutes upon launching into MIO: Memories In Orbit to be roadblocked by your first locked gate. After a brief intro section, you’ll meet your first Overseer at the Nexus, which serves as the initial sort of “bonfire”-type checkpoint in MIO.

Directly to the right of this first Overseer is said locked gate, which will prompt you with red text showing that you must first locate the Silo Access Badge in order to see what’s on the other side. Let’s get to work.

How To Find The Silo Access Badge

MIO: Memories In Orbit: Silo Access Badge

Head up from the Overseer at the Nexus, then due west to meet Shii for the first time, who has sadly seen better days. After this, keep heading west to find MIO’s first elevator.

You’ll need to ride the elevator up one floor, then head west/left again to reach the game’s first highly explorable area.

This is a section full of icy ramps and platforms you’ll be skating across, but our path is located near the very bottom of this area.

You’ll need to end up at the spot marked on the map above, so follow this path of rooms downward until you stumble upon the game’s first major boss fight.

Meet Egis, the Worn Out Sentinel. Like Shii, Egis is in pretty rough shape, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t ready for a fight, either.

Still, he’s not that hard to learn, as most of his attacks are just lunges you can leap over and punish from the rear, or combo melee attacks that you can simply move far enough away from in order to stay safe.

Be patient, punish your open windows, and chip away at Egis’ HP until he goes down once and for all in a sad heap of all of his former glory. Poor guy.

From here, continue through to the other side of Egis’ arena through the now unlocked doorway on the right, and keep heading downwards on the only path of progression forward.

You’ll eventually reach a large, open tunnel, which is home to Samsk. He’s a centipede-like robot that will also serve as your source of cool new abilities and upgrades through your time with MIO: Memories In Orbit.

Complete Samsk’s training exercise, and you’ll be gifted with the Hairpin, which functions as a grappling hook for the rest of the game.

With the Hairpin now in your arsenal, you finally have what you need to actually locate the Silo Access Badge. First, you’ll need to head all the way back to the Nexus/Shii’s location just above the first Overseer/bonfire.

Just left of Shii and before the red doorway you can enter (where Mel has the shop set up), you’ll notice a green grapple point above you.

With the Hairpin now unlocked, you can grapple onto this green object and pull yourself up to the roof of the red building to the left. Once on top, hop through the open window to your left.

This will place you in Halyn’s Boudoir, a cozy-looking, makeshift bedroom complete with cute little robots sitting on the bookshelf in the background.

On the ground, you’ll spot an unknown object. Pick it up, and you’ll now have the Silo Access Badge in your inventory. Success!

Can You Get The Silo Access badge Early?

MIO: Memories In Orbit: Silo Access Badge

Simply put, yes, you can. The player should first the elevator to ‘Apartments’ and then works their way through Dwellings down to the elevator call point ‘The Spine.’ At this point, don’t call the elevator and instead fall down the shaft hugging the right hand side.

This should allow you to double jump right at the end of your fall and reach Hayln’s Boudoir, where you can access the Silo Badge.

This will allow you to access areas like the Feral Undergrowth much earlier and get some goodies, but to fully explore, you’ll need access to the Hairpin.

What The Silo Access Badge Unlocks

Now, you’re free to return to the locked gate just to the right of the Overseer in the Nexus. Use the Silo Access Badge, and your path forward will now be open.

This spits you out in the Feral Undergrowth, a new area of the game that houses several important points of interest. Most notably, you’ll find another boss, Flora, in the southeast corner of this area, who just so happens to be guarding the Aviaries Passepartout, another key item you’ll need for progression later.
