As you work your way through MIO: Memories in Orbit, you’ll gain a number of skills that will help you navigate this labyrinthian world. You’ll gain the ability to glide, grapple, and even walk on your tendrils, doing your best Doc Ock impression.
However, there is a part of your movement kit that you might not be aware how to use, and that’s Downward Dash.
I’m penning this article purely because I went 25 hours into this game without performing a single downward dash, always thinking that this skill was next on the docket. But, as it turns out, it was right at my fingertips the whole time.

How To Use Downward Dash

To put it simply, you don’t need to unlock downward dash, and you don’t need to progress to a certain point in the game to use this bit of your movement kit.
To perform this move, you simply need to jump into the air, aim downward with your left analog or movement key, depending on what platform you’re playing on, and then press jump again.
This will cause Mio to dash down rapidly to the floor, and will earn you the ‘To The Bottom’ achievement. One that eluded and confused me for quite some time. Yes, I’m stupid, but I’m sure there are other low-IQ gamers just like me.
When is Downward Dash Useful?

Unlike the skills you acquire throughout the game, this movement ability isn’t required for any points of progression. However, it can come in handy to unlock some secret areas.
Take Haven and the Bell Tower for example. This is an area full of platforms made up of leaves. If you use this downward dash move on these Platforms, you can pass through to a lower area and find some goodies in the process.
In the image shown above, dashing down to the lower area will help you find the mod Resources Shortage, a handy one to have if you want to equip more mods and get more bang for your allocation matrix points.
Hopefully, now that you know and you’re not a dummy like me, you’ll find all those goodies before you’re at the game’s close.
