As you start working your way through the early bosses of MIO: Memories in Orbit, you’ll eventually find yourself navigating the Feral Underground. An area that plays host to some overgrowth called Flora, in desperate need of some weedkiller treatment.
Flora is the boss of this area, and one that isn’t the toughest to take down if you’re prepared. But will require you to make the most of your new hairpin ability to come out on top.
Here is how to not get tangled in the weeds and defeat this thorny monstrosity.

Where To Find Flora In MIO: Memories In Orbit

As mentioned, Flora is found in the far right corner of the Feral Underground. To access this area, you will need to have found the Silo Key located just above Mel’s Workshop.
Once you’ve got this, you can work your way over to this area of the map shown above.
How To Prepare

Depending on when you fight Flora, you’ll most likely not have many Mods or upgrades at your disposal. Thankfully the boss isn’t grotesquely hard, but you’ll need a few little tricks and trinkets to get you through.
I would suggest using the Protective Overlay Mod for an extra hit point. Plus, I would suggest trying to find the keeper in dwellings to gain a permanent damage boost. The location of which is noted in this How To Beat Acat guide.
You can technically find enough Coating Components to add an extra hit point, and some additional helpful mods. But, in truth, it’s far better to fight Flora as early as possible to take full advantage of the reward you receive.
How To Beat Flora

Flora is a fairly easy boss to take down, mainly because their first phase isn’t much to write home about. But, their second phase can prove a tricky test. Here is what you’re up against:
- Root Jabs: Flora jabs the ground in front of them with their roots. Best counter is to step back from the boss to avoid.
- Root Slams: Similar attack as above, Flora slams down with their roots. Same counter, step back and then rush back in to get a few hits in.
- Root Sweep: Flora reaches out with their two Roots. To the left side of the arena, then drags them back in low to the ground. Best counter is to stand close on the extension, and then jump over the roots on the drag back.
- Spit Attack: Flora lifts their head up and spits four projectiles at the player. Best counter is to stand close to the boss as their projectiles cover the middle and back of the arena.
- Triple Root Jab: In their second phase they will use a jab attack that hits three times.
- Side Sweep: In their second phase they will use an attack that sweeps their root along the ground to the side. Watch for the sweep and jump over the root.
As mentioned, the first phase is rather straightforward. But the key to winning this fight is nailing the second phase.
The boss will vomit out a hazardous puddle in front of them, and you need to use your Hairpin ability to jump in, hit them on the head, and then grapple back to safety.
Try your best to do this on the cooldown from one of their attacks to ensure you get a full three combo in, and make sure your energy is refilled before you jump in for another hit.
Provided you can do this, you’ll beat this boss and reap the rewards.
Rewards For Defeating Flora

The rewards for this boss will either be well received or lackluster depending on when you get around to fighting this boss.
Firstly, they will spit out a new companion that will appear in The Nexus. Mio’s assistant will be able to decipher curios that you find within the world.
Plus, if you pop over the now defeated Flora, you’ll find the Aviaries Passepartout, which will allow you to unlock an upper level of Haven via the door just right of The Spine without needing to fight Crow.
