Aside from perhaps Nabuu, it took quite a while before MIO threw a boss at me that truly left me bewildered and confused as to how I would ever come out on top. But, along came Atmos, who forced me to change my approach.
Atmos’ aesthetic is chill, but their demeanor certainly isn’t: this boss moves fast, uses relentless projectiles, and has a boss arena that will have you slipping and sliding.
However, if you prepare well, you should be able to melt this frosty foe. Here’s how you should go about it.

Where Is Atmos In MIO: Memories in Orbit

Atmos is located in an area right at the end of a Foundations loop accessed through the Halls of History. So, you’ll need to beat Calderon to gain access to this area.
After this, work your way through Foundations until you access the elevator back into the Halls of History. Which will allow for an easy run back from the Metropolis save point.
The exact area of the map where you can access Atmos is shown above.
How To Prepare

When preparing for Atmos, one thing is super critical. You need to have access to the Dodge ability.
Once you have this, you have the secret weapon that will make Atmos so much easier.
One thing I strongly recommend you avoid is equipping the Imperfect Focus Mod. This will give you 5 more Allocation matrix points, but you’ll want that larger dodge window.
Then, depending on how many Modifier extensions you have acquired by this point I would suggest some or all of the following:
- Protective Overlay
- Kinetic Thrust
- Defense Mechanism
Also, while I don’t feel it’s necessary, if you’re someone struggling to get the dodge timing right, you could equip the Enhanced Dodge mod for an extra-long dodge window.
How To Beat Atmos

So, now for the actual fight. Atmos has a lot of killer moves at their disposal, but if you’re a master of dodging, you should be able to keep them at arms length.
Here is the moveset they are rocking:
- Triple Icicle: Atmos uses their cannon to fire three Icicles at the player. These move fast, but if you read the attack early, it’s rather easy to slip under or between the rounds. If you can’t move out of the way, use your dodge ability at the point of contact.
- Homing Spin Attack: At regular intervals, Atmos will glow white and come at the player with a spin attack. This tracks the player so it’s always best to try and time a dodge. You can sometimes use the wall to leap over them, but it’s not as consistent as the dodge.
- Slam: A simple slam attack in the middle of the arena that causes some icicles to fall from above. Just make sure you don’t get caught in the middle of the room, and look up to avoid falling debris.
- Icicle Turret: Atmos will slide to one side of the arena and start relentlessly firing icicles like a machine gun. Use Sail to hover behind the boss and land some combos in relative safety.
- Charge Attack: Atmos will have ready themselves and a little glimmer will appear over their head. Then they will charge at the player. Jump and use Sail to avoid this attack.
- Around The Room: Occasionally Atmos will glow white and do a full lap around the perimeter of the room. You’ll want to either use dodge or jump over them to avoid their path. But also, be aware for falling debris from the ceiling.
- Rotating Turret: Easily the most dangerous attack. This will happen when the boss is at 50% health or less. They will float in the middle of the arena and launch icicles relentlessly out of their left and right cannons. Try to move with the direction of the blasts while getting some offense in, and use dodge to avoid the blast when it gets to you.

Above all, the key to this fight is embracing the dodge ability. If you don’t, you’re going to have a horrible, frustrating time trying to take down this boss.
Rewards For Defeating Atmos
Defeating Atmos will grant you access to a new area of Foundations, where you will be able to explore and get your hands on a new ability called Striders. A skill that allows you to stick to and crawl along walls.
