Mewgenics is all about breeding the best cat army out there, which means bloodline tracing. Much like looking at the lineage chart of a thoroughbred horse, tracking the family tree of your feline warriors is essential for carefully breeding the traits you need for the most effective army.
Part of breeding a powerful militia of cats is avoiding inbreeding, which will weaken your cats. And to avoid inbreeding, you need to see the family tree of your feline friends.
How to see a Cat’s Ancestry in Mewgenics

In order to unlock the Family Tree view, you need to give Tink 21 kittens. 1 kitten gets you the Fancy Bow item, 10 more kittens get you the base stats view upgrade, and another 10 for the family tree upgrade.
Once unlocked, you can view any cat’s Family Tree by selecting a cat, opening up the bio menu, and clicking the tree icon to the left of your selected cat’s portrait.
This is the third upgrade you earn from Tink, so it’s not usable right out of the gate but you will get it very early on in the game. This is key because inbred cats aren’t just uglier, they’re more likely to pass along health issues to their kittens. The more inbred the cat, the more likely they are to inherit a birth defect that lowers their stats and makes them less useful in your feline army.
Additional bio page upgrades
Once you unlock the Family Tree view, you can easily check if a cat is inbred from the main bio page. To the right of the cat’s name on the bio page there will be a face icon. A straight face indicates a cat that isn’t inbred, while an unhappy face indicates an inbred feline.
The family tree upgrade also allows you to assign a shape next to each cat’s name, which you can use to track family lines.
How to avoid inbred cats
Now that you can see your cats’ family trees, you can separate cats that are related by placing them in different rooms. This way you can ensure your cats only breed with unrelated cats.
Tracking your cat family lines by using the shapes is an easy visual way to keep your cat bloodlines clear. You can also donate inbred felines to Tink or your other neighbors for more upgrades to remove them from your clowder and give your remaining brood better chances at world domination.
If you’re running out of fresh blood for your clowder of felonious felines, you can bring in the strays that drop by each day. Strays are not related to any of the cats in your menagerie, so you can use them to vary blood lines and aid in your selective breeding attempts.
Once you’ve got a powerful bloodline of selectively bred cats, you can take on some of the more challenging bosses like the Queen Hippo, or optimize your item loadout for the Fighter class.
