With the new Brushes With Death DLC in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, you can find some new questlines to complete and more achievements to unlock. Some quests will offer some complicated objectives, and during the Portrait in Red quest, you only get the choice to kill Burkhard. But there is a hidden achievement to unlock if you manage to let him live, and this guide will explain how to do that in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
Vengeance Solves Nothing Trophy/Achievement Guide KCD2
You unlock the Vengeance Solves Nothing trophy by stealing Burkhard’s helmet and lying to Master Voyta about it. To start the Portrait in Red quest, you need to find the Shield Painter, Master Voyta, in the western part of town. Head inside Trosky Castle and make your way up to the attic to speak to him. He will tell you about a killer on the loose called Burkhard, and how he needs you to put an end to his reign of terror. After the conversation, you will get the quest objective to kill Burkhard.

Check your map to find a new location in the forest in the eastern section of the map. If you hover over the quest marker, you will get the objective to Kill Burkhard. To kill Burkhard, you can just enter his campsite, sneak up to him and kill him, or fight him in a duel. But, for the purpose of the Vengeance Solves Nothing achievement, we need to let Burkhard live. To do that, follow the steps below.
- Wait till Burkhard is fast asleep, which usually happens at night. But, some players have a bug where Burkhard is asleep during the daytime as well, or isn’t asleep at all.
- Restart the game if you don’t find him asleep, or continue with the next step if he is.
- Sneak into his camp if you are sure that he is asleep, then scavenge the camp to find a chest containing his helmet.

- You can either lockpick the chest to open it, or pickpocket the keys off of Burkhard’s sleeping body and use it to unlock the chest.
- Pick up the helmet and return to Voyta to get a new dialog option after showing it to him.
- Lie to him that Burkhard is dead to complete the quest and get the achievement.
While the quest objective remains unchanged during the Portrait in Red quest, you don’t have to necessarily kill him. The quest will update to completed as long as you return to Voyta and speak to him regarding Burkhard’s demise.
