Terrain Scanner in RoadCraft is a tool that allows you to navigate the terrain with ease. It scans complex surfaces for your vehicle. However, it only does so in its immediate vicinity. For new members who are trying out Saber Interactive’s latest simulation title, this article will offer a brief guide on how to use the Terrain Scanner in RoadCraft, including its various features such as AWD, Differential Lock, and Low Gear.
Activating the Terrain Scanner in RoadCraft

The Terrain Scanner in RoadCraft can be accessed by pressing 4 on the keyboard if you are on PC. PlayStation 5 players can press the L1 key on their controller, and for Xbox Series X/S players, the key is LB.
You can use the Terrain Scanner whenever you want, but it comes in handy once you are driving through a complex terrain with rough surfaces. Here’s how you can go about it with its various abilities:
- Once you turn on the Terrain Scanner, if the dots around the vehicle are green, it means the terrain around is smooth to drive on. You will also be able to pick up the pace on such terrains.
- Yellow terrains are slightly less smooth, which led me to use the other abilities of the vehicle. On these terrains I found myself going through less speed than usual.
- Red terrains consist of the harshest routes in the game. In these terrains, I used much more of the other abilities and found myself going slow and steady.
Utilizing the Terrain Scanner in RoadCraft for Complex Navigation
Low Gear, AWD, and Diff. Locks are some of the most useful vehicle abilities that you can use in RoadCraft. As mentioned above, these abilities come through when driving on each terrain.
When I was in a muddy area consisting of yellow and red dots, I found myself stuck, and the vehicle’s speed was reduced to the lowest. In this situation, players can use AWD (all-wheel drive) in the vehicle by pressing ‘E’ on the keyboard.
Moreover, you will also need the Diff. Lock for better navigation through the harsh terrain. Press ‘Q’ on your keyboard to activate diff. Lock. Finally, press ‘Shift’ to turn on Low Gear, which allows a steady and slow speed.
Once you have activated the said modes, once again open the Terrain Scanner using ‘4’ on your keyboard, and try to drive your vehicle through the yellow and green dots. This will make the vehicle extremely steady, as you avoid the red dots, which consist of the harshest terrain.
