On top of all the highly unique items, abilities, and spells to find in Cinderia, progressing side quests in the Shelter can unlock all new characters.
Aside from Rue, the starting character, Rivet will be the first fresh face you find, trading Rue’s stealth and daggers for heavy ordinance. If you like the sound of literally blasting the darkness back, let’s go over how you can unlock Rivet, the Blacksmith Girl.
Meeting Grant

As you make attempts to clear Cinderia’s first area, you’ll run into an old man being kidnapped by the Witch’s forces. Clearing the room will lead to him introducing himself as Grant, a blacksmith who is more than willing to follow you back to the Shelter.
Grant builds and upgrades different parts of the Shelter in exchange for different currencies, mostly Stone. In between visits to him, he’ll mention a niece who was also around the area, but he’s sure she can handle herself.
This is your hint that Rivet is now available, all that’s left is to find her.
Finding Rivet

Rivet herself can be found in an Event node, the question mark rooms that you can find. You’ll know you’ve found her when she leaps into the fray, joining you for the fight and flooding the room with explosives.
Her bombs can’t hurt you, so feel free to join her on the frontlines to introduce yourself. Once the room is clear, she’ll ask if you’ve seen her uncle, following you to the Shelter where she can now be swapped to freely!
If you’re struggling to find her, try to maximize the Event rooms you’re entering. She only seems to appear in the first area, so make sure you’re keeping to question mark rooms before the Forest, otherwise you’ll have to wait until your next run to try.
How Does Rivet Play?

Rivet is all about AOE, range, and heavy firepower. Leaning far more into ranged combat than Rue, Rivet’s passives and spell cards grant her access to serious long range firepower, will giving her plenty of options in case enemies close the distance.
Her secondary attack requires Ammo, which she reloads whenever she’s out. These lulls in your onslaught are the perfect opportunity to weave in abilities, make some space from the enemy, or lay down the hurt directly in melee.
For a seriously hands-off approach, try out her multitude of turrets, which can be upgraded to hold multiple stacks to summon a whole armada at once. Why not engulf the enemy in a sea of fire and shrapnel with her different explosive options?
What she loses in evasion when compared to Rue, Rivet makes up for in pure bombastic potential. She’s my personal favorite character at the moment, but Cinderia has taught me to be excited for what could wait around any corner, if you’re just willing to look.
