Training your character in Umamusume comes with a lot of complex information that can make or break the character. You must be aware of the attribute details, ranking details, and other information to prioritize the specific attribute over the other. Here is everything you need to know to train any character in Umamusume.
Train Any Character In Umamusume

The first step is to pick the character or Umu that you are looking to train. Head over to the Career Info section to learn more about them. In the Goal section, you will see the list of races, some of which will have Long to Medium races. Knowing about the races will be a deciding factor in choosing a proper training route for the characters. The training route will cover Support Cards and Legacy selection.
Ranking Details:
When you choose your character, look over the Track, Distance, and Style stats: Dirt, Turf, Mile, Pace, and the rest. Why does that matter?
- Track: Shows the acceleration detail of the character.
- Distance: This will affect the Speed of the character.
- Style: It will influence wit but will not interfere with the skill activation rate.
Here you will spot different rankings from A to G. If your character has an A rating on any stat, it means they are preferred at their base level with no extra bonus or negative speed. A rating is perfect, as it refers to the character giving their 100% to that specific attribute.
If the character has a B ranking on Distance or Track, it refers to the character getting a negative 10% penalty on that stat. C will raise the negative penalty to 20, and finally, G will offer the negative value of 90%. Suffice it to say that you want your character at the A or S tier. S tier will grant a positive bonus of 5% to 10%. Training is the only way to get your character from lower ranking to A or B tier.
Legacy or Parent Selection

You must pick two Legacies to inspire your character to perform even better. When you select a legacy character for your racing character, focus on the stats: Power, Speed, and Stamina. Initially, you might not have enough good characters for inspiration. Since there are two legacy slots that you must fill, one of them can be filled with Guest Legacy, and the other one will be from the starter pool of characters.
For Guest Legacy, make your way to the Rankings, pick the Racer with a good Support Card and race skill. Once you find a certain racer, follow them. Now make your way back to the Legacy select, here, head over to the Guest section to choose the Followed Racer as a Guest Legacy.
Here, you also have the option for auto-selection, right at the bottom of the selection boxes. An easy workaround for newcomers who may not have the proper characters for the legacy selection.
Support Card Selection

Just like Legacy Selection, in the Support Card section, you must pick six Support Cards to enhance your Umu’s stats. If you have a particular skill that you want to focus on in the training, choosing the proper Support Card will help you achieve that goal.
A common character sheet will have 5 different attributes and other details that will massively influence the outcome of a race. We will go through each one of them to better prepare you for the training.
Tip: Remember to level up your Support Cards to make a bigger impact.
Common Attributes:
Each character will have 5 attributes: Speed, Stamina, Power, Guts, and Wit.
- Speed: Influences the top velocity in the late race. Most characters or uma will share the same speed until the late race.
- Stamina: This influences the HP of the character during the race. The speed of the character will massively impact the HP drainage.
Note: Some skills can help you recover HP, ex, Swinging Maestro: Recovers endurance on a corner with efficient tuning.
- Power: Power affects the acceleration ability of the characters. More power will also lower the character’s speed while running uphill.
- Guts: Guts majorly influence the duration and value of bonuses, lowering HP consumption during the last spurts.
- Wit: Wit impacts the skill activation rate of characters. Higher wit will result in a maximum chance of activating a skill. You shouldn’t focus too much on Wit; setting the Wit around 300 will be enough.
Wit Stat Detail: 300 Wit will add a 70% skill activation rate, and a Wit over 600 will have a 90% skill activation rate. Wit will also impact the Rush of your character.
Prioritize Attribute: First and foremost, pay attention to Speed, then focus on Power, Stamina, Wit, and lastly Guts.
Different races will require you to swap your Support Card with another. At first, pay attention to Support Cards that boost Speed, since it is the most important stat out of all five attributes. Also, note that speed training also influences Power training. Here are the changes you should make for different requirements:
Attributes | Mile and Sprint | Medium Distances | Long Distances |
Speed | Around 900 | Over 800 | Around 700 |
Stamina | Around 350 | Over 450 | Over 600 |
Power | Over 600 | Over 500 | Over 400 |
Wit | Around 300 | Around 300 | Around 300 |
- If you are looking for a Front Runner, then replace two Speed Support Cards with one or two Wit cards.
- To cover Medium Distances, remove one Speed card and replace it with a 1 Stamina card.
- For Long Distances, replace one Speed card with 2 Stamina cards. Long races require more Stamina and less Power and Speed.
- For Late Surge or End Closer, add 2 Power cards.
You can brighten the mood of your trainee character by adding a friend card. They also boost energy, skill points, and other stats alongside helping with Mood. That’s it, now you have everything set up to start the training.
