How To Increase the Number of Alters

You can create Alter of your character via the Womb machine right next to the Quantum Computer. Creating more is the only way to survive, as they can be assigned to carry out various tasks around the base. Here is the guide to increase their number in The Alters.

Increasing Alters Slots In The Alters

You increase the number of Alters by upgrading your Qubit Level. Each level increase adds 1 slot.

    • Qubit Level 1 – Limit the Alter slots to 3. (Default)
    • Qubit Level 2 –  Adds one more slot, total of 4.
    • Qubit Level 3 – Adds one more slot, total of 5.
    • Qubit Level 4 – Adds one more slot, a max of 6.

Some alters will require Qubit Level 3 or 4 to unlock, even if you have an active slot at Qubit Level 1. The more important Alters, such as a Doctor or a Shrink, will have their required Qubit Level 3. You can only create these specific Alters by levelling up the Qubit level and then spawning them in the Womb machine. If you are confused about which Alter you should focus on or prioritise first before the rest, then check out the guide to help you better understand the role of each one.

You can upgrade the Qubit Level at the Quantum Computer with a Qubit Chip. Each Qubit Chip needs the following to be crafted:

    • 1 Damaged Chip
    • 20 Metals
    • 20 Minerals

Metals and Minerals are easily found, the key resource here is the Damaged Chip. You get 1 Damaged Chip in Act 1 and 2 in Act 2 of The Alters. We have put up the location for each of these below.

    #1. Damaged Chip | Act 1

In Act 1, head to the Mineral dig site by heading north of the base. Once you are in the area, it will be filled with anomalies; just head down the slope on the left of the mineral spot. You will come across a space shuttle crashed on the left, next to the running lava on the right. Here you will find a half-opened box in the middle. Open it to get the first Damaged Chip in the game.

    #2. Damaged Chip | Act 2

This one is the easiest one to get, just head north of the base, and you will find the chip on the right of the Enriched Material dig site. The area around the chip will not be safe; you must deal with anomalies and radiation, so move with caution. Use your Luminator to destroy the anomalies before making a move to the chip’s location.

    #3. Damaged Chip | Act 2

This one is located a bit far from the base, and the area around the chip is filled with dangerous anomalies. Pack some suit batteries before making a move to the region.

From the base, head north and reach the second damaged chip location, where you will find a climbable spot on the right. Once you are in the upper region, take the path on the right and then head to the open area on the left. Here you will spot a half-opened box in the middle of empty space, where you find the final Damaged Chip to fully uprade your Qubit Level.

Reaching Qubit Level 4 also unlocks high-tier technologies for research, but some of them will require Planetary Samples to unlock, even if you are on Qubit Level IV. Follow our simple guide to obtain a Planetary Sample to unlock new research for the Research Lab.
