How To Get Wheat In Rust

Since Rust is an open-world survival game, you have to learn how to scavenge for supplies and work on defending yourself. Luckily, you can grow food at your base with the resources provided to you. Later in the game, you can start growing wheat and making bread. Getting wheat in Rust is pretty simple, and this guide will give you the rundown on how to get wheat in Rust.

The first thing you need to do is collect wheat seeds and wheat. You can find Wild Wheat in the overworld, and you can scavenge for them to pick it up. Once you do that, you will find Wheat and Wheat Seeds as the output. You can use wheat directly this way, or plant the seeds into an open field or planter pot to grow wheat. Another item that you might get from harvesting wheat is Wheat Clones, which can also be planted to grow wheat.

Your next step is to water your seeds and provide sunlight. A simple lamp or UV lamp alongside water sprinklers for your indoor planter pot can provide the required nutrients to grow your wheat. Or you can place a sprinkler outside and let nature run its course instead. You will need a large source of water, like lakes or swamps, and a pump to draw out water. With that in place, you can set up your water source and start growing your wheat plant.

You need to keep an eye on your crops from time to time, as they can wilt and die if they have been left unattended. When you click on a crop, you can see various stats. Below we have explained what each stat means.

    • Health: You can ignore this, as health will vary as the plant grows.
    • Age: This shows when the seed has been planted and how long it has been growing.
    • Stage: This section is highly crucial to track down when to harvest crops. As soon as it says Ripe, you should be ready to pluck it up. Also, at the Crossbreed stage, you can genetically mutate your crop to get a better yield.
    • Water Intake: You can track how much water is required to grow your crops.
    • Yield: By keeping an eye on this section, you get to know how much crop yield you will get by harvesting it at its current stage. The longer you keep your crop, the better the yield output.

You also get a section about your plant’s condition, which details how much sunlight and water it gets, as well as the ground and temperature conditions. When all of this is at 100%, then your wheat crop will thrive. If you find some stats lacking, then you should work towards improving those stats to get better crops.

Fertilizers can improve ground conditions, and you can get fertilizer by building a compost bin and placing scraps inside. Horses can also drop dung, which is a great way to get fertilizer. Electric Heaters can manipulate the temperature, making it hot on a cold day. You can place heaters on wooden frames even when outdoors and connect them to a power source.
