In a survival game like Valheim, having the right armor is crucial to ensure that you have a better chance of defeating your enemies. One such armor that you must have is the Root Armor, especially if the Bow is your weapon of choice. And that is precisely what we have put up for you in this guide below – how to get the Root Armor in Valheim.
How To Craft The Root Armor In Valheim
The Root Armor in Valheim is crafted by unlocking its recipe by collecting Roots, and then crafting at a level 2 Workbench after gathering the required resources. The Armor consists of the Root Harnesk, Root Leggings and the Root Mask, and these can be crafted with the following resources:
Armor Item | Roots | Ancient Barks | Deer Hides | Leather Scraps |
Root Harnesk | 10 | 10 | 2 | – |
Root Leggings | 10 | 10 | 2 | – |
Root Mask | 10 | 10 | – | 4 |
To fully upgrade the Root Armor, you need to gather an additional 12 Roots and 30 Ancient Barks each for the Root Harnesk, Root Leggings, and Root Mask.
Deer Hides can be obtained from Deer and Leather Scraps from Boars, and both these are found in abundance in the Swamp biome. Ancient Bark is obtained from Ancient Trees in the Swamp biome. The most difficult ingredient to obtain to craft the Root Armor is the Root.
How To Get Roots In Valheim
One of the most important ingredients to craft the coveted Root Armor in Valheim is Roots, which can be acquired by defeating Abominations in the Swamp Biome.
However, finding Abominations can be a bit of a challenge and you need to defeat at least 14 Abominations of them to get enough Roots to craft the Root Armor. Each Abomination drops a total of 5 Roots on defeat, and you need 66 Roots to fully craft and upgrade your Root Armor set.
How To Find & Defeat Abominations In Valheim
Abominations have four wooden legs which makes them look a bit like spiders. They run across the Swamps and are often difficult to spot because of their speed. If you have defeated the Trolls in the Black Forest Biome, you will not have much difficulty defeating the Abomination monsters.
Since you would not come across these mini-bosses easily, you need to increase your chances of spotting them by looking for large tree trunks in the open water areas. Rather than hunting for them, you need to stay close to the water and be mentally prepared for an Abominations attack as they are more likely to spot you before you do.
While battling an Abomination, one must keep in mind that these mini-bosses are resistant to Blunt damage and are susceptible to fire. As a result, keeping Slash weapons handy is imperative (think nice and sharp Battleaxe!). You can also use arrows, but make sure that you don’t use Frost and Poison arrows as it would not deal any significant damage.
Abominations deal Blunt damage and have three types of attacks. It slam attacks players when they get too close, swipes the ground with an arm, and stomps on the ground.
The best way to defeat this boss is by luring the Abominations towards fire geysers. Since the Swamps are full of these, all you need to do is run towards them and make sure that the Abominations follow you. Since these mini-bosses are not smart enough to dodge the fire geysers, you can deal a lot of damage to them with relative ease.
Is The Root Armor In Valheim Worth It?
The Root Armor not only helps boost the Bow Skill but also is resistant to poison attacks. As a result, you will have a great time defeating the poisonous blob Swamp boss, Bonemass. However, the only con of this armor is that you have to stay away from the fire if you want your wooden outfit to not blow up in flames. The armor falls in the Light Armor category and thus has less movement speed penalty as compared to something like the Iron Armor.
And that completes everything on the Root Armor in Valheim. In case you are looking for other armor sets in Valheim, you may want to check out our guides on Fenris Armor, Carapace Armor and the Wolf Armor.
