During the first two days in Elden Ring Nightreign, you should be gearing up to prepare for the boss battles ahead. There are secret areas called Evergaols to unlock that hold some valuable loot. But, you need to unlock these areas first and also defeat the bosses within before you can lay your hands on the items they drop. For this, you will require Stonesword Keys, and this guide will explain where you collect them in Nightreign.
How to Get Stonesword Keys in Nightreign

There are two ways to get your hands on Stonesword Keys in Nightreign. You can either find them during your exploration of the overworld, or you can purchase them from merchants. The former method is free, but a bit tedious to do. During your exploration, you have to break open every breakable crate and check fallen corpses for the keys. World chests also have a chance of holding keys, so if they appear, be sure to loot them for the rewards. The best places to search for lootable chests are within:
- Churches
- Basements within Ruins
- Enemy Campsites
- Castles and other POIs
If you prefer to check out a merchant’s wares to collect the Stonesword Key, then be prepared to shell out a lot of runes. It will cost 6,000 Runes to purchase one Stonesword Key, and the chances of this item appearing within the shop is random. You might have to visit different merchants at different times before this item appears on the list.
How to Use Stonesword Keys

There is just one purpose for this key type, and that is to unlock secret areas called Evergaols. If you check your map, you can locate a deep blue, circular icon. Head over there to find an empty arena and an imp statue somewhere around it. You need to hand over the key to the statue for the boss to spawn. The bosses that spawn here are extremely difficult to beat, but are well worth the effort if you do manage to beat them.
Stonesword Keys won’t be carried over to the next round, so you are better off heading over to the nearest Evergaol and using them up before the day ends. If playing in a team, then have all your teammates use up their keys as well. The rewards that you can get from clearing an Evergaol can range from high-level weapons, passive abilities, and even large amounts of runes. These items will help you tremendously post day 2, so take your time to clear as many Evergaols as you can.
