Borderlands 4 features a huge open world for players to run around, collect items like Echoes, shoot enemies, and collect Legendaries. Doing all that on foot, however, can be a task; fortunately, the game provides players with a means of transportation that allows them to travel quickly and efficiently.
Unlocking Your First Borderlands 4 Vehicle

Right when you start the third mission in Borderlands 4, called Down and Outbound, you’ll be greeted with a brand-new vehicle waiting for you in the form of a MAV-880 Digirunner. Once you receive your first Borderlands 4 vehicle, you can summon it at any time while you are on the map, outside of the restricted zones. To do that, press X on the Keyboard or the left D-Pad on your controller. This will bring up your vehicle and let you travel around the world with ease, allowing you to perform your Vault Hunter duties.
Your Digirunner will come equipped with the ability to boost, jump, and drift. It also comes equipped with a rapid-firing gun and a missile launcher to damage any enemies you encounter while riding the bike around. It won’t leverage any of the damage types and weaknesses available in-game, but it will damage them just enough to keep your vehicle safe.
Unfortunately, Digirunner is a one-person vehicle, which doesn’t allow more players to ride it. So, if your friends hop on to play co-op with you, they’ll be riding their own Digirunner alongside you.
How To Upgrade & Customize Your Vehicle In Borderlands 4

You can find the upgrade section for your Digirunner inside the Vehicle sub-menu of the Customization tab. When you are in this menu, you can either change the visuals, paint job, or improve the performance of your Digirunner by unlocking something called a Hover Drive.
Each Hover Drive tunes your Digirunner to a particular style of play. Some will tune its acceleration and handling, others will tune its speed and boost. Depending on which manufacturer’s Hover Drive you use, the stat distribution changes. The key here is what best suits your play style and adjusting to it.
You can unlock more Hover Drives by using weapons and various legendaries from specific manufacturers. This results in earning more loyalty rewards with them, eventually unlocking the Hover Drive they have; the higher your loyalty rewards, the better the Hover Drives you will unlock.
Can You Unlock More Vehicles in Borderlands 4?

Yes, Borderlands 4 features ten different vehicles in-game for players to unlock. Most of these vehicles unlock as you play through the story and complete the main missions; however, there are 4 that are tied to specific challenges for each character class. For example, the Skimmer unlocks on completing a challenge playing as Vix & reaching Level 50. These Challenges can be viewed by going into Missions -> Challenges ->Character.
The game also allows you to create level 30 characters on completing the story once. Hence, you don’t have to grind for each of the 4 characters to reach Level 50 from scratch.
All 10 Vehicles In Borderlands 4 & How To Unlock
You unlock 6 vehicles by completing certain main missions, and 4 by completing specific challenges for the four Level 50 characters. Here are the vehicles and the unlock requirements for each of them:
| Vehicle | Unlock Requirement |
| Digirunner | Complete Down & Outbound (Story Mission #3) |
| Driftblade | Complete Rush The Gate (Story Mission #6) |
| Punchy Whoopster | Complete Her Flaming Vision (Story Mission #10) |
| Carapacer | Complete His Vile Sanctum (Story Mission #14) |
| Fang Glider | Complete Another Day, Another Universe (Story Mission #16) |
| Sprintcraft | Complete The Timekeeper’s Order (Story Mission #20) |
| Skimmer | Complete An Unseen Braid (Vixen Level 50 Challenge) |
| Rockslider | Complete Knight Errant (Amon Level 50 Challenge) |
| Gyrosled | Complete Form & Function (Harlowe Level 50 Challenge) |
| Pulsor | Complete YOLT (Rafa Level 50 Challenge) |
The only catch comes in the form of all of them being just a variant of the initial Digirunner you unlock. They don’t add anything additional to the general experience, but they are good to unlock because they look cool in Borderlands 4. Collecting all 10 vehicles also unlocks the Catch-A-Ride trophy/achievement.
