To escape a dungeon in Dark and Darker, you need to find a Blue Headstone. Interacting with it opens a portal that players can use to escape the level. Escaping the level this way lets you keep all the loot that you picked up during the run.
What makes things tricky is that these headstones appear at random. So you have no way of knowing when or where it’ll spawn. Once they do appear, you will receive a notification on the top right corner of your screen. You’ll also get an audio cue to signal that it’s time to leave.
Keep in mind that once a portal is opened and a player goes through it, the portal will close. Only one player can use the portal, and if your enemy gets to it before you, you need to go find another blue headstone. So make sure you keep an eye out for them during your run.
Tips and Tricks on How to Escape in Dark and Darker
While escaping sounds easy, in actual gameplay, it gets tricky. Here are a few tips to ensure you escape a dungeon safely every single time.
Tip 1: Do Not Open a Red Portal
The blue headstones often spawn at the same time as the red headstones. The red headstones, unlike the blue ones, take you further into the dungeon. This can be very dangerous as the further you are inside the dungeon, the slimmer your chances of survival. So steer clear from them unless you know what you’re doing.
Tip 2: Do Some Last Minute Looting
Once you open a portal, it stays active until someone goes through it. If there are no enemies in the area, you can do some last-minute looting to multiply your reward at the end of the game. Make sure you don’t wander too far away from it, though. Always keep track of its location when you’re scavenging for that final bit of loot.
Tip 3: If a Portal is Outside the Ring, GO FOR IT
Often, you’ll find yourself very close to a blue headstone, but it is just outside the ring. While being outside the ring does deal damage, it’s not enough to take you out immediately. You can sometimes catch the other players off guard by running for the portal that’s outside. Since it’s right on the edge, other players are more likely to avoid it, giving you an uncontested way to get out.
