Crusher Puppet is one of the many NPCs that you will come across in Lies of P: Overture. When you first meet him in Chapter 3, he explains that you are not actually speaking to his real body, but rather a puppet. He is unsure of his true location and asks you to help by exploring deeper into the ruins to find and rescue his real self.
Completing it rewards you with several valuable items, including a gesture and one of the Records, which is essential for unlocking the “Memory’s Melody” achievement. That being said, this article provides a complete guide on the Crusher Puppet’s quest in Lies of P: Overture.
How to Find the Crusher Puppet and Start the Quest

To begin the Crusher Puppet quest, you need to progress through the Ancient Ruins Excavation Site in Chapter 3 of the Lies of P: Overture DLC. This quest must be completed before you finish Overture, so don’t wait too long.
While exploring, you’ll eventually cross a wooden bridge that leads downward. After crossing it, take a left into a cave. Inside, you’ll hear a robotic voice speaking. Look around the area to locate a Crusher Puppet and talk to it.
He will explain his situation and ask you to find his real body by going deeper into the ruins. After this conversation, the quest officially begins, and your next step is to locate two more Crusher Puppets.
Crusher Puppet #2

Continue playing through Chapter 3 until you reach the Ergo Mining Site Stargazer. From here, use the moving platform to advance further into the level. After crossing it, take the path on the right. You’ll soon hear the familiar voice of the Crusher Puppet once again. Follow the tracks past the crates to find the second puppet. Speak with him to progress the quest.

Crusher Puppet #3

Once your conversation with the second puppet ends, use the nearby exit to get back onto the main path. After dropping down from the cave, turn to your right and follow the path that leads across a short wooden bridge. This bridge will connect you to a much longer one. Cross it to reach a new cave.
As soon as you enter this next cave area, you’ll hear another call from the Crusher Puppet to your left. Locate and speak with this third puppet. Be sure to listen to all the dialogue to move the quest forward.
The Final Steps of the Crusher Puppet Quest: The Brain in a Vat

To complete the quest, proceed to the Pistris Harbor Stargazer. From there, descend to the large platform at the bottom. Look for a wooden plank path and follow it. At the end, you’ll find a Brain in a Vat, which is the real body of the Crusher Puppet. Interact with the brain to learn that his true name is Alexander.
During your conversation, Alexander will find out that he does not have a body, he is, quite literally, just a brain in a vat. You also inform him that there is gas leaking from his tank, which he then tells you is what’s been keeping him alive.
As he fully comprehends his fate, Alexander will ask you for one final favor. He requests you to turn off his machine so that he can meet his end on his own terms. You have a quick choice to make here: which is whether to help Alexander or to deny his request.
Here are the consequences of both choices:
- Help Alexander: Agreeing to help him will lead to a heartfelt farewell. You shut off the machine, allowing Alexander to pass away peacefully. As a reward, you’ll receive the Nightmare Record, which can be listened to later.
- Refuse: If you choose not to help, Alexander will understand and accept your decision, saying it was too much to ask from a stranger. He decides to wait for the machine to fail on its own. The conversation ends there, and no rewards are given.
While the decision is ultimately yours, helping Alexander is recommended, as refusing offers no meaningful outcome and prevents you from obtaining the Nightmare Record, which is one of the eight Records in the Overture DLC, and is required to get the “Memory’s Melody” achievement.
