In Metaphor: ReFantazio, there is more to the game than just locating various enemies and defeating them to make progress. Since this is an open world adventure, you will find items that you can pick up and bring back for certain quests or item crafting. Not just that, the game also has a method to refurbish your gear and turn it into usable and stronger equipment. How to go about doing this is exactly what we have covered in this guide.

How To Appraise Gear In Metaphor: ReFantazio
Appraising gear involves turning your unusable weapons and armor into something usable. Sometimes when you pick up gear, you will find them sitting in your inventory and not your equipment menu; which means you cannot use them yet. Instead, you need to appraise them, but this option doesn’t unlock initially. You need to complete the Pagan’s Dilemma Quest in Metaphor: ReFantazio to unlock gear appraisal. Below are the steps to complete this quest.
- Head over to Grand Trad, Sunshade Row and talk to the Mustari Man.
- You can identify this NPC from the box covering his head.
- Next, go to the church and purchase the Breath of Fresh Air item from the vendor.
- Hand over the Breath of Fresh Air to the Mustari Man, and in return you will learn how to appraise items.
To appraise an item, head over to any shop in any town. General Stores and Blacksmiths will also help you out. Interact with the vendor and you will find the Appraise option in their store menu. Select that option, and then pick any rusted or unrecognizable gear that you cannot equip. It will cost some money to turn them into recognizable gear, but once the process is done you can equip it. Below is the list of rusted items and what they turn into.

How To Purify Gear In Metaphor: ReFantazio
Purifying a gear significantly improves the stats and gives a passive bonus as well. Such gear is extremely rare to get, and when you do manage to get your hands on one, you should get it purified right away. To do that, you first need to raise your Wisdom Royal Virtue to level 2. There are several ways to increase Wisdom, such as visiting locations for the first time, spending time with Neuras, or visiting scenic locations.
Once your Wisdom stat has reached Informed level, you can visit any church within any town and interact with the church’s menu. You will now get an option called Purify. Select it and open up the Equipment menu to pick your impure item. The game will tell you beforehand what the Purified weapon stat and bonus will be, so you can then decide whether you want to proceed ahead with the purification or let it go. The reason to consider this very carefully is because you will need 1* Blessed Water and some Reeves to purify gear. Blessed Water is mostly found within dungeons and is a limited resource.
The higher the rarity of the purified weapon, the higher your cost will be. You can only perform the purification of any gear once, and the bonus stats that get added to them are permanent.
For example, we were able to upgrade the Dragon’s Indignation greatsword for the Warrior archetype that we had obtained on defeating the Fire Dragon Fauna; into Dragon’s Judgment, and the ATK stat jumped from 111 to 144, with all Normal Attacks now turned into Fire Attacks!
