The sixth major update has added a horde of new features to the game, one of the highlights is the Gem mechanics. A special item part of the Thralls of Twilight Update that you can use on a weapon to add new effect abilities. There is a requirement for the gem mechanics that must be followed to install it on a weapon. Here is a complete guide to the Gem mechanics in the Enshrouded update.
Unlock Gems In Enshrouded

You will have access to the new Gem mechanics after updating Enshrouded to the latest patch. Once you have the game updated, talk to the Alchemist and bring up the topic titled About Weapon Gems. You will find the option under the Craft option. End the conversation, you will immediately get a quest titled Finding and Using A Gem Forge.
Get to Gem Forge
Head to your Journal and activate the quest. It will leave a marker on the map; open up the Map, click on the Finding and Using A Gem Forge quest marker, and Set as Waypoint.
- Follow the marker to get to the Gem Forge. Once you reach the area objective marker, the icon for Gem Forge will get added to the Map. If you head over to the Map, you will see a brand new label for Gem Forge on your location.
- Around the Gem Forge, you will also find enemies; defeat them and loot the items from their bodies. One of the looted items will be titled “Archaic Essence”.
- The next task is to follow the footsteps of the Fell. If you open up your map, you will see the green circle, the area of interest. Search the area until the game adds a new location titled “Shroud Lair.”
- Get inside and explore until you spot the Fell Banshee. Defeat the boss and loot the body to get Legendary Runes x9 and Gem of Bleeding.
- With both of the items in hand, head back to the Gem Forge.
Gem Forge Screen

- Under Available Gems, you will only see the Gem of Bleeding. And you will see three options at the bottom: Upgrade, Insert, and Recycle.
- The weapon for Gem Forge must have an active Gem slot. You will see the option for the Empty Gem Slot under the Item Info section of the weapon.
- Now select Gem of Bleeding under Available Gems and choose Insert. Choose your weapon under Available Weapons. And click on Insert at the bottom of the screen to install the Gem.
Note: You will need 50 Archaic Essence to insert a Gem into a weapon.

Things You Should Know about the New Gem Mechanics

- Weapon Gems can be upgraded, added to, and removed from the weapon.
- You must have access to Gem Forge to install Gem into your weapon.
- Gems can only fit into the weapon that is deemed a higher rarity.
- Gems will add new effects to an applicable weapon.
- Each Gem Forge is different; interacting with Gem Forges in dangerous areas will unlock higher-level upgrades for Gems.
- The Gem Forges in the world will require unique resources to upgrade and insert gems.
- When you encounter elite enemies in the wild, defeating them will help you gain Weapon Gems. All Gems are different in appearance, same goes for the effect they add to a weapon.
