Transferring occupation in Europa Universalis V refers to transferring one of your occupied countries to your allies. During wars or times of crisis, transferring occupation can be incredibly helpful, which means you can transfer a specific province to a certain ally as part of a peace deal. If you’re looking to transfer the ownership of a province to a trusted ally, here’s how you can easily do it in Europa Universalis V.

To transfer occupation in Europa Universalis V, click on the territory/province you want to transfer, and then head to the “Province tab” inside the Location menu on the left. Towards the top of the menu, you’ll notice a label stating that the specific province is occupied by a Kingdom, for example, “Occupied by Kingdom of Portugal.” To the left of this label, you’ll find an icon that you need to click on to transfer occupation. This icon is the “Transfer Occupation” button.

After clicking the button, you need to choose which ally or vassal you want to transfer the occupation to. Keep in mind that this is a one-time deal, and once you’ve transferred your occupation to one of your ally provinces, you won’t be able to get it back. After transferring control to the listed countries or allies, you cannot undo the decision.

It’s also important that there’s an available country that’s willing to receive the occupation of the province you want to transfer. You need to meet certain in-game requirements from the allies or the vassals willing to accept the transfer before you can start the transfer process.

Transferring occupation in Europa Universalis V has several benefits that you should know. For starters, decentralizing your authority certainly helps, and if you’ve already transferred an occupation to an ally before, it will open more opportunities for further expansion in future peace treaties. Transferring occupation also is also useful if you have too many areas to oversee and manage, it ensures you’re not overwhelmed with control of a plethora of nations all at once.

It’s excellent for focusing on the key areas, provinces, and nations, while letting your allies handle the occupation for the minor areas. Like relocating capital, transferring occupation also helps in extending your control. If you do not want to manage an area or feel like it could be better managed at the hand of an ally, go ahead and transfer the occupation.

That’s all you need to know about transferring occupations in Europa Universalis V. For more comprehensive guides on the game, check out the ones on How To Fix Unprofitable Buildings and How To Deal With Unemployment.
