Besides the main story quests in Clair Obscur Expedition 33, you can pick up several side quests as soon as you meet the required NPCs. While exploring The Small Bourgeon, you will find a small Bourgeon that requires some Bourgeon Skin to help it grow into a full-sized Bourgeon. This guide will tell you how to go about completing this request in the game.
Clair Obscur: Small Bourgeon Quest Guide

Start from the Ancient Sanctuary portal and head west towards the trees to find a portal leading you to the Small Bourgeon. The NPC in question can be found after you head southeast of the rest point flag, and it will be standing under another large but dead Bourgeon. Speaking to it will reveal that they require Bourgeon Skin to help it grow, and this item drops from fully grown Bourgeon enemies.
There are two Bourgeon enemies that you can find and defeat for the quest, and both of them will drop Bourgeon Skin upon defeat:
- In Flying Waters, near the Lumerian Streets (Expedition 48) rest point,
- eastwards of the Stone Wave Cliffs portal.
The one in Flying Waters is the easier of the two to defeat, since it is not accompanied by other enemies while in battle. If you want to find this particular Bourgeon, head east from the rest point and turn left after the first lamp post. Walk through the hidden path to find the boss.
How To Defeat Bourgeon

Bourgeons don’t pose much of a threat, and you can quickly take them down with a couple of your best moves. Using Gustave’s overcharge a couple of times is enough to bring the beast down. You can also use Lightning and Fire attacks, as these are its weaknesses. You can use skills that can mark and cause burns to the marked targets to deal maximum damage.
The Bourgeon will usually attack by slamming its fists in different areas, and sometimes it can also consume a party member, making them miss a turn. It can also fire slow-moving projectiles that need a timely dodge to avoid. Overall, this isn’t a very difficult fight, so you can get over it rather quickly.
If you are trying to deal with the Bourgeon in Stone Wave Cliffs, I strongly recommend that you be above level 20 to keep the fight manageable, what with the other enemies around. But the attack tactics remain the same.
Should You Kill the Small Bourgeon?

Return to the Small Bourgeon and hand over the Bourgeon Skill item to help it grow. You can take a rest at camp or leave the portal and return to find the Bourgeon is now fully grown. Next, talk to them and get your rewards straightaway, or fight them. The attack patterns of this Bourgeon remain the same as the others, but it is a tad bit weaker than the rest.
Ultimately, your choice will boil down to the rewards you wish to get, but killing or sparing the Bourgeon will also impact the Nevron’s side quest.
- If you defeat the Bourgeon before meeting Blanche, then you will receive 1x Polished Chroma Catalyst and 5x Colour of Lumina.
- You can return to Blanche and kill them too to receive an extra 2x Grandiose Chroma Catalyst and 10x Colour of Lumina.
- If you have spared all the Nevrons during the side quest, then you will receive 100x Color of Lumina from Blanche.
- Sparing the Bourgeon will reward you with 1x Color of Lumina.
Whichever option you pick, this will end the quest, and you can continue forward with the other game objective.
