You and countless sailors drifted in the ocean, wondering the same thing: Can you fall in love with a mermaid? This possibility also comes up in the form of Morgen, as part of the Deep Calleth Upon Deep questline in the Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. Can You Romance Morgen in Tainted Grail
Well, you can, upto a point, but let’s just say that it does not end well for you…at all. The romantic journey with Morgen the mermaid will begin in the Deep Calleth Upon Deep questline. Once you return the Treasure Box to Morgen, you will be given dialogue options with the mermaid; here, picking the proper one leads to romance. Once she sees you, she will playfully say:
“You came back to me…. I knew you couldn’t stay away.” The game leaves you with two options:
- I have your treasure box. Give: Morgen’s Chest x1
- (Leave)
Handing over the treasure box to Morgen the mermaid, she will reply with: “Oh, thank you so much, my sweet, sweet mortal! You worked so hard to get it. I saw everything from here.”
She will then talk about your physique and appearance flirtatiously, ending with a question: “Have you ever felt that way, my beautiful mortal? Like your whole body was burning and only another’s touch could quench the flame?“
- No, I don’t think so.
- Yes, I have.
- I’d like to talk about my reward.
Once you have professed your interest towards Morgen, the wheel of romance will start to spin. She will continue to talk about the love she feels for you with the dialogue: “I feel the strangest pull toward you… as if you’ve stolen my very senses, made me yearn in ways I never knew I could.” Leaving you with three options:
- Ah, right. I have King Arthur inside me, so that’s probably it.
- Are you sure it’s not hunger?
- I’ve never been with… someone like you.
Morgen will start talking about having you by her side, where she wouldn’t let anyone have you. Ending the dialogue with “the final two options: “All you have to do… is come closer.” The game will present you with the final two options:
- (Move closer)
- No, thank you.
When you decide to get closer, the game will break into a cutscene of Morgen, where she will be kissing your lips and later devour your body to quench her flame for hunger. The narration states:
The touch of her cold, wet lips douses the flame of your desire. As her claws break the skin of your neck, you begin to realize just how much of a fool you’ve been. You try to struggle, but her grip is unyielding. Before you can cry out, she pulls you down into the frigid depths. You open your mouth in a silent scream as her teeth sink into your flesh.”
Leaving you with a Game Over screen, option to Load Last Checkpoint or Exit to Menu for some reflection time. Romancing a mermaid ends on a sad note, but at least you are now aware of all the tales of the sea about falling in love with mermaids.
