Cairn – Where To Find The Troglodyte Piton (The Child Trophy)

Earning every trophy/achievement is tricky business in Cairn, but the game also makes many of them worth your while. Once such task is locating the Troglodyte Piton to get The Child Trophy.

Pitons are your biggest lifelines in Cairn, so grabbing and maintaining as many as possible is incredibly important. There’s nothing worse than being stuck on a particularly tough section of a climb only to realize all your pitons are busted.

As such, you should do your future self a favor and make a stop along your route to grab the Troglodyte Piton. Here’s how it’s done.

Where To Find The Troglodyte Piton

After The Village section of Cairn, you’ll reach a fairly open area called The Standing Stones. As a reminder, if you don’t know how to tell what named section of the game you’re in, it shows you when you stop at a save point.

On the far right side of The Standing Stones, you’ll find The Child, which is a giant statue that you’re able to scale.

If you grabbed the Troglodyte Doll Map in The Village, go ahead and open it up to be shown the optimal (and easiest) routes to climb The Child.

Halfway up, if you need a breather, there’s a brazier you can light, which you can also stand on to rest for a second.

From here, keep climbing till you reach the doorway on the face of The Child, then head on in. Things are about to get even more challenging now.

How To Get To The Troglodyte Piton

In front of you is a giant, deep chasm. Of course, you’ll need to make it to the other side for this task. This is not exactly easy, to be honest.

The walls of this cave you need to scale across are too hard to stick a piton in, so you have to do everything in one go with no checkpoints. Because of this, don’t be ashamed if you switch on the assist that allows Fall Rewinds. I definitely used it here myself.

Follow my same route if you need some guidance, but just know that this climb is mostly just a lot of trial/error, incredibly precise movement, and fall after fall to rewind. Stop and replenish your stamina as often as you can, and do your best to get across. Above is how I did it, using the right side of the wall.

Once you finally make it, make use of the save point on the other side, then grab the Troglodyte Piton from the statue at the back of this tunnel.

Congratulations! For your next prize, you get to climb all the way back to the entrance of this tunnel you came in from. Yep, back across the chasm you go.

However, you actually can tackle this a couple different ways. Either go back the way you came and shuffle across the top section, or rappel into the chasm and climb up the other side.

I opted for the rappelling and climbing back up choice, which I still stand by since that initial climb across the chasm was so challenging. Above is the route I used.

    Troglodyte Piton Usage

In addition to earning you The Child trophy, the Troglodyte Piton is actually incredibly handy.

With it, you can now actually deploy it into the hard rock that your regular pitons are too weak to penetrate. For example, the cave walls you just scaled across that rendered your normal pitons worthless can now be piton-ized. Of course, this is just a single-use deal, but it still is great in a pinch.

The other benefit is that the Troglodyte Piton doesn’t require the little timing mini-game to stick it into a wall. When you use it, Cairn automatically deploys it perfectly. It also glows in the dark, which doesn’t matter, but is kind of sick.
