Pitons are undoubtedly the most important thing Aava needs to climb Mount Kami in Cairn. Well, that and food, shelter, water, and some bandages to patch up those cracked fingers.
There are three different Troglodyte Pitons that can be found as you scale Mount Kami, and each one comes with its very own achievement. The achievements for the Pitons are hidden until you actually find them, which makes them a little more difficult to locate on your own.
If you’ve already picked up the first Troglodyte Piton and snagged The Child trophy, then you’re ready to take on the second Troglodyte Piton. This is how it’s done.
How to Find the Second Troglodyte Piton

If you use our guide to search for the Troglodyte Doll in The Standing Stones area of the mountain, then you likely already went through the cutscene that involves Marco and some warm miso soup.
It’s after this cutscene that you’ll find yourself talking to Marco and actually traveling beside him. Well, until Aava gets annoyed a few minutes in and asks him to try and find a different path to take. At this point, you’ll have made your way to The Ancient area. Fortunately for you, the area has the very same name as the actual achievement you’ll be earning.
As you climb the mountain in this area, you’ll be railroaded onto a rickety bridge that extends over a massive cliff face. If you pay attention downwards, you’ll immediately notice a large Troglodyte statue, similar to The Child, where you located the first Troglodyte Piton.
It’s a little tricky to actually get to the foot of the statue, but once you get to the other side of the bridge, you can rappel down and slowly make your way. Personally, I extended my rope to its maximum after rappelling down and then swung myself onto the platform where the statue was.
How to Get to The Second Troglodyte Piton

Once you can walk through the opening at the foot of the statue, you’ll be met with a cave that has a greenish-gold tint. You’ll immediately be met with a spiral staircase going upwards, which you’ll need to follow
Once you arrive at the top, you should see a tree that has various notes hanging from it, as well as a save location. There are a few locations to check out here if you want to get to those before moving on to the Piton.
After reaching the save point, head down the path directly to the left of The Ancient save location and keep walking until you find yet another room with a large, glowing tree in the center.
Walk directly past this tree to find a smaller Troglodyte statue that’s wielding a Troglodyte Piton. The moment you pick it up, you’ll be awarded The Ancient trophy for finding the second guardian’s Troglodyte Piton.
What Does The Troglodyte Piton Do?

In Cairn, the Troglodyte Piton works exactly like all the other ones, but is permanent, and cannot be broken. You also don’t need to worry about the small mini-game associated with properly sticking pitons into the mountain face. Instead, you can just press the Y button/ Q key to use a Troglodyte Piton and avoid accidentally slipping and falling.
Since you don’t need to worry about them breaking, I’d recommend them being the last pitons you use when you’ve officially run out. There’s nothing worse than trying to complete a long climb only to find out that you only have broken pitons left over.
