Getting into the nitty-gritty of every achievement and trophy is probably the most fun part about gaming. Cairn has quite a few achievements that are straight ‘gimmes,’ but there are a handful that you will need to be on the lookout for.
While I didn’t actually find the frog because I wanted to get the Lick Responsibly achievement, I did, and now, I can tell you about how I did it. It’ll also give you the adorable frog keepsake.
Realistically, there are a few places you can snag this trophy because, well, there are frogs to be found all over the mountain. But once you do find one, you’ll be in for one heck of a ride and an easy achievement in your pocket. This is what you need to do.
Where to Find the Frog
Every time I’ve found a frog, they were located inside a damp cave within the mountain. More specifically, the very first one I located was on the mountain face where you are able to collect the three parts of the Troglodyte Doll.
While going through that guide, you’ll want to make a quick pit stop at Doll Part III. Just below it, there is a cave entrance that’s pretty easy to miss if you don’t know where you’re looking.
According to my map above, you’ll want to take the green trail in this area, just below the proposed area where that Doll piece can be found. When you arrive, wedge yourself into the space circled above, where you’ll come to find a narrow cave opening.
As you dwell further into the cave, you should come across a pretty spacious area that has a small pond that you can refill your water with and the skeleton of a failed climber. However, if you’re paying attention enough, you’ll also find a small, jumping frog at your feet.
Once you’ve got your eyes on the frog, you can press the X button / E key to pick it up and give it a big lick. Yup, stick that frog in your mouth and taste its weird juices.
After you’ve done that, you’ll also be awarded with the Lick Responsibly trophy.
What Does the Frog Do?
Now that you’ve licked the frog, I’m sure you noticed the colors all around you. Don’t be alarmed! You’re Stoked! What does that mean exactly?
Well, to put it in plain terms, you’re high. What does this do? With all the colors you can now see, you’re able to easily see where all the grooves and jutting stones are on the mountain face, making it a little bit easier to find your footing.
It can be a little bit disorienting, since the colors come in a rainbow, but with some chalked up hands, you’ll be scaling the mountain easily. However, the Stoked status effect only lasts for one minute and 30 seconds. So, you’ll need to make every second count if you want to take advantage.
And no, you can’t pocket the frog to use it later. But, now that you know where you want to look the next time you want to lick a frog, you know exactly what sort of dwelling you’ll need to search for.
How to Use the Frog Keepsake
The frog keepsake can be used by opening up your backpack, and going all the way to the right-hand side. You’ll immediately see all your keepsakes, which are essentially just keychains that you can attack to your climbing pack.
These keepsakes in Cairn don’t grant you anything, and don’t award you with an achievement, though they’re definitely cute.
