Best Starting Race, Birthsign & Class In Oblivion Remastered

The biggest change in the modern Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered is the tuning they added to the leveling system. No longer do you have to deal with the micromanaging this process of leveling up In the guide, we will cover the Best starting Race, Birthsigns, Class, and other details of the new Oblivion Remastered.

While obviously the race, birthsign and class are best chosen depending on the playstyle that you are gunning for, what we have listed in this article is the best all-rounder start, in case you are not sure how you want to take your character ahead as you play the game.

    Best Race

Race Selection Sheet The Elder Scrolls Oblivion

We feel that Breton or the High Elf are your best starting points if you want as well-rounded a start as possible. While there are obvious advantages to picking a Khajit if you are in the mood for a stealth adventure, or Nord for the Skyrim warrior with resistance to frost; here are our reasons to pick Breton or the High Elf:

Breton: The Breton race offers a permanent 50 Magicka points, and 50% Magic resistance. The highlight of the Breton is undoubtedly the 50% magic resistance. The game does throw a lot of magic damage your way, and a % based resistance, to the extent of 50%, is a great attribute to have, not just when you start, but even across mid and end-game. The -ve can easily be covered during the level-ups, and over the course of the game that does not matter much.

High Elf: The High Elf race gives you fortified Magicka at the rate of 100 permanently, and 75% resistance to diseases. Even in the Original Oblivion, High Elf was a game breaker with the right magic accessories. The Remaster also brings many benefits to the High Elf Race. When you are looking to mow down demoras in the Oblivion portals, having access to a good amount of magical items at all times will make things a lot easier. While you will be getting a 25% weakness to Fire, Frost, and Shock, which means you will be weaker against mages in the game, there are accessories and spells to make up for this.

    Best Birthsign

Birthsigns Selection The Elder Scrolls Oblivion

The Lord: It will work well with the game’s magic build, as it provides magic resistance up to 15% and raises the Armor rating by 15. If you have picked Breton or High Elf, the Lord will make a perfect Birthsign for everything Magicka-related.

The Thief: We will also recommend giving some attention to the Thief’s Birthsign. If you are building an all-arounder class, Thief comes with 10 points in Agility, Luck, and Speed. An extra benefit especially on Luck, which affects all other attributes, is not a bad choice to pick early on.

    Best Class

Class Selection The Elder Scrolls Oblivion

Class can be a bit of a complicated topic, while the game does provide you with already created classes for newcomers to jump in without putting too much thought. But we will recommend that you select the custom option over the predefined classes. While we will list out the best 2 classes in Oblivion, we will also be focusing on the custom class option to give your character more weight in terms of survivability and offensive capability.

    Sorcerer:

A fitting class for all things magic, since we are following a Magicka-focused building in this guide, ending it with the Sorcerer class will make sense. because it offers Endurance and Intelligence attributes and covers the following skills: Alchemy, Alteration, Heavy Armor, Mysticism, Conjuration, Restoration, and Destruction.

    Mage:

Mage is another class that offers Intelligence and Willpower as the primary attributes and has the following skills: Alchemy, Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Mysticism, Illusion, and Restoration. One of the best choices for the Magicka build, whether you are following the Breton or High Elf Race.

Why Should You Choose the Custom Class?

Here we will highly recommend that you go with a Custom class instead of selecting anything pre-defined. Predefined skill lists on classes will not cover the depth of your character build. It will always skip out on some of the necessary skills or attributes. Here, selecting a custom class helps you pick the skill that meets your needs, providing a more customized experience in the class.

Tip: When selecting the Attribute, pay attention to the Luck attribute, and make sure to add it to your custom class. Luck affects all the skills. When you are starting out, Luck will have a positive consequence on all of your actions. Another attribute that you should focus Endurance, to take care of your HP.

Why Invest In Luck: When you level up in Oblivion, you can invest 5 points in Endurance, Speed, Agility, and the rest of the attributes. But the game only allows you to invest one point into Luck per level. Since Luck is a rarity in the upgrade section, having one in the class is highly recommended.

Here you will also need to pay attention to the Athletics to run faster. When you are starting in the game, your speed will matter the most, since you will be doing a lot of running around. Make sure to select Athletics, you can then invest the rest of the skills in your Magicka or Warrior base build.

You can skip over Mysticism, Acrobatics, and Security, as they are less useful compared to others. Always focus on the skill set that you will be using more in the game. If you fancy using a blunt weapon in the game, then add Blunt skills, or if you prefer to take the combat face to face, invest in Hand-to-Hand combat skill.

With that, you are well on your way to a great start in the game. Do check our guides here on how to solve the Wendesel Block Puzzle in Vilverin; an area that you can access very early in the game.
