Your character’s build will impact how you wish to play the game, and there are tons of choice abilities to choose from that will help with this. If you are looking at a particular class build, then you would wonder what abilities, weapons, and gear will be best suited for that. This guide will cover the best build for each class in Avowed.
Best Build for Each Class Avowed
There are three main classes in Avowed, namely the Wizard, Ranger, and the Fighter. For each of the classes, we have covered below the stats to focus on, best skills to unlock, weapons, armor & gear to equip. So let’s get started, first with the Fighter class.
Best Fighter Build

Fighters will depend on might, so you need to focus all your attribute points on abilities that will enhance strength while also increasing your agility and dexterity. This build will help you tough it out in combat, and is the best if you are looking for a more offensive approach in the game.
Best Stats to Upgrade First
- Might and/or Resolve
- Dexterity
- Constitution
- Perception
- Intellect
As mentioned above, as a basic Fighter build, you need to focus more on increasing your Might, followed by Resolve. With these two in check, you can increase your damage output and carry weight with Might, and increasing Resolve will help in increasing Stamina and the efficiency of Second Wind. You can then follow up with Dexterity for increased Action and Attack speed, then focus on increasing your Max Health under Constitution.
Best Fighter Abilities For Early Game

- Charge
- Constant Recovery
- Barbaric Shout
- Toughness
- Brawn/ Finesse
Charge is one of the best early-game abilities to unlock, as you will encounter walls that need to be broken very early in the game. Not just that, this ability also helps you charge headfirst into an enemy, dealing significant damage or knockback. Constant Recovery can be your second ability to unlock to help you in health regeneration, while Barbaric Shout can stun or knockback enemies, while also giving you a damage boost. Follow that up with Toughness, and then, depending on whether you use single-handed or double-handed weapons, go for Brawn or Finesse.
Best Fighter Abilities For Late Game
- Devastating Criticals
- Retribution
- Armored Grace
- Inspiring Triumph
- Reflect
By mid to late game, you should be managing well by unlocking and upgrading all the earlier skills. Once you are past level 15, you should focus more on increasing your damage output while decreasing your stamina loss. Devastating Criticals is a great pick for increasing damage output for melee weapons while performing critical hits. Retribution deals back double or more the amount of damage to enemies compared to the damage received, and Armored Grace decreases Stamina penalty for wearing medium or heavy armor.
Best Weapons

There are two main weapon builds for the fighter. You can either go for a one-handed weapon and a shield, or a two-handed weapon. Single handed weapons with a shield can help you in defense and agility, but you might have to compromise a bit on attack power. Two-handed weapons can offer higher damage output at the cost of reduced mobility and no defense, but are great for parrying.
For two-handed weapons, the Philosopher’s Riddle is the best Great Sword to get in early game, or you can switch that with the Seven Strivings Great Axe or Horsecutter GreatSword. For shields, Unflinching Duty has better stats than others, while Drawn in Winter is a really good early game single hand weapon.
Best Armor and Gear
Fighters should stick with heavy armor, since they will be doing a lot of offensive battles in the open world. For early game, try to get the Wayfarer’s Heavy Armor, or you can switch it up with the Stelgaer’s Pride Medium Armor. Pair this up with Bound Boots for increased Stamina, or Arcanist’s Boots to increase health regeneration. As for gloves, if you get your hands on the Steel Garrote Gauntlets, then you can increase your parrying efficiency and max stamina.
Best Wizard Build In Avowed

This build is perfect for players who prefer to use magic and spells at mid-distance to deal attacks. You will be relying on essence regeneration and ways to increase your damage range, so you have to plan your stats and skill points accordingly.
Best Stats to Upgrade First
- Intellect and/or Perception
- Resolve
- Might
- Dexterity
- Constitution
You need to work on your Intellect first to increase your max essence, plus you get a handy boost of extra elemental resistance. But, if you wish to increase your critical hit chance and attack range, then go for Perception. Follow that up with Resolve to increase your max stamina and Second Wind Efficiency, then go for the other three since they are not too important anyway.
As a wizard, you won’t be dealing with close combat, so Might and Dexterity won’t be on your cards anyway. And as for why the Constitution seems to be last, is for the fact that your spells are enough to heal you. Plus, your armor quality correlates to the amount of damage you take, so the higher your armor level, the better your chances are at surviving.
Best Wizard Abilities
- Minor Missiles
- Armored Essence
- Blast
- Grimoire Mastery
- Wand Mastery
The Wizard skill tree is pretty linear, so during early gameplay unlock or upgrade your level 1 and level 5 skills. As you keep leveling up, keep upgrading your Grimoire Mastery and Wand Mastery to unlock new spells and increase damage output. Focus most of your skill points on Grimoire Mastery, as not only can you unlock new spells, but you can also decrease the amount of essence it costs to cast a spell. This will help you out in the later sections of the game, so it is something to keep in mind. For HP regen, you can unlock the Constant Recovery skill from the Fighter skill tree to help you heal and restore HP.
Best Weapons

The Wizard build does not offer a two-handed weapon, since you need to keep your Grimoire on you at all times. So, if you have a Grimoire in your off-hand, you can use a one-hand weapon or wand. If you are going for a weapon, then pick the Drawn in Winter for early game and then switch to any sword of your choice and upgrade it. Most of your attacks should come from the Grimoire anyway, so your choice of one-handed weapon won’t matter.

As for wands, you would have already picked up the common wand during your early playthrough, and that’s about the best wand that will carry you through the middle or even the end of the game. Just keep upgrading it through the weapon crafting bench and even upgrading the Wand Mastery skill. If you happen to come across the Whisper of Exiles, then you can switch your wand with that to help you in the late game.
Now, coming to the Grimoire, stick with the Grimoire of Elements or Grimoire of Greater Elements in early gameplay. Later on, once you get your hands on Auroch’s-Skin Grimoire, then you switch it up with that. Even the Legendary Grimoire of Rime can also work, but you are better off with the Auroch’s Skin Grimoire for its superior selection of spells.
Best Armor and Gear
Your basic Upgraded Robe is enough to get you through all the regions on Avowed, as you need something lightweight to carry you through the game anyways. But if you are looking for the best late game armor, then you need to get the Robes of Surpassing Brilliance. You can pair up the Robes of Surpassing Brilliance with the Arcanist’s Gloves for increasing max essence and parkour speed. Or you can go for the Ninagauth’s Gruesome Grasp for increasing ability cast speed and frost damage.
As for boots, any boots will work well with this getup, and it all depends on your personal choice of which stats you wish to improve. Boots of the Bricklayer, Windwalker Boots, and Shoes of the Glimmering Merchant are all great picks that offer different stat boosts when worn. You can also go for a fixed set like using the Arcanist’s Gambeson alongside the Arcanist’s Gloves for a more uniform look.
Best Ranger Build For Avowed

The skillset for a Ranger is very versatile, as you can use a combination of abilities between Fighter and Ranger or Wizard and Ranger classes. A pure Ranger build can be a bit weaker, hence it is recommended to mix the skills under a Ranger with any of the other two classes. Nevertheless, let’s break down a Ranger build below.
Best Stats to Upgrade First
- Dexterity and/or Might
- Perception
- Resolve
- Constitution
- Intellect
A pure Ranger build will require more agility and damage power, so you can upgrade those stats first from Dexterity and Might. Follow that up with Perception to increase range and critical hit chance. Go for Resolve next for maximum stamina and Second Wind Efficiency, followed by Constitution for Poison and Bleed Resistance as well as increase max health. You can work on Intellect if you are going for a combination of wizard and ranger, or you can omit this entirely.
Best Ranger Abilities For Early Game

- Tanglefoot
- Shadowing Beyond
- Survivalist
- Scavenger
- Marksmanship
Tanglefoot, Shadowing Beyond, and Survivalist are active skills, so it is worth investing in them first. Tanglefoot can keep enemies rooted for a short while, and Shadowing Beyond helps efficiency stealth around the battlefield. Survivalist is another great skill to add to increase health and essence restoration while consuming food, which will help you tons during the early game.
Scavenger is another skill that is passive but a must-have, as this can give you extra upgrade materials while breaking down equipment. And finally, if you are a complete range build, then you would benefit from Marksmanship passive skill to increase damage from bows and guns. You can switch this up with Finesse or Piercing Thrusts for a melee Ranger build.
Best Ranger Abilities For Late Game
- Bear Ally
- Sniper
- Flurry of Blows
- Staggering Shot
- Critical Strike
The late-game abilities for the Ranger can give you a huge boost in damage output and other skills. Bear Ally is a great skill to give you a bear to fight alongside you. Sniper helps increase damage output against unaware enemies, and Flurry of Blows increases attack and movement speed along with increasing stamina regeneration. Staggering Shot increases the chances of Power Attacks inflicting stun, and Critical Strike increases Critical Hit Chance.
Best Weapons

A pure Ranger build will depend on Bows for attacks, as this is the only weapon that offers long-ranged attacks. But you can always switch this out with melee weapons as a Fighter Ranger or use pistols instead of bows. The versatility of a Ranger can help you use any weapon of your choice, so you don’t have to restrict yourself to just bows. If you are looking for the best bow, then upgrading your basic Bow to max level will suffice till you get the Ancient Alacrity legendary bow.
Best Armor and Gear
Light armors work best with the Ranger build to give you increased movement speed and agility. Also, having a lighter armor helps in performing better stealth attacks, which is great if you wish to go for a stealth build. You can get the Blackwing Armor quite early in the game, which can be upgraded and used to carry you through the rest of the game till you find something better.
If you do happen to get the Councilor’s Garb later in the game, then you can get an additional increase in Stealth Attack Damage and damage reduction, perfect for a stealth Ranger build. As for gloves, any glove that offers stun damage like Canvas Gloves, Vambrace, or the Xaurip Paws work great when paired with the Ranger’s abilities. For boots, you can pick any that offers the best boosts to your skills.
