Avowed: Report The Refugees Or Help Them?

In Avowed, there are quests that will have you make choices that can lead to their own set of rewards. While visiting the quaint dwellings of Shantytown in Dawnshore, you can find an Aedyran couple who wish to seek refuge in Thirdborn. But the catch is that they can’t afford the cost to get there, so it is up to you to seek a resolution. This guide will cover whether you should help them or report them to the authorities in Avowed.

How To Start The Escape Plan In Avowed

While exploring Shantytown’s upper sections, you are likely to come across a couple, Leoflaed and Glaedwine. They are found on the upper floor of the tavern in the southern section of the town, with a quest marker on them. Talk to them to start the Escape Plan quest.

Another way to start the Escape Plan quest is to find Remei in Southern Paradis and agree to help gather supplies for the couple. This will also give you the quest marker to the couple’s dwellings in Shantytown. Whichever path you choose, speak to the couple to learn about their plight. You first get to learn about Glaedwine’s lack of eyesight, and he requires a special herb called Ondra’s Kiss. They also require the Thirdborn land deed to help them escape, so find these two items and make your way back.

The Escape Plan: All Choices & Consequences

Once you hand over these items, they will explain that the smugglers who are supposed to help them escape are asking for a very high price, and it is something that they can’t afford. You also get to learn that they are no ordinary couple, and they have done an unthinkable act that will change your perspective on them. So now, the choice is yours; whether you wish to help them escape or turn them in.

    Help the Refugees Escape

If you decide to help them against your better judgment, then make your way to the smuggler’s hideout. Just follow the quest marker west towards the Xaurip Camp, and near the shoreline you will encounter a familiar face. If you had rescued Ilora earlier, then you can find her here with the smugglers.

Talk to them to make your case about paying for Leoflaed and Glaedwine’s escape, but Ilora will thank you for rescuing her and convince the Captain to bend to your wishes. You won’t have to fight the smugglers or pay a dime, and you can head back to the couple to give them the good news.

If you haven’t rescued Ilora from before, then you won’t find her at the smuggler’s point. So you won’t have a strong case to back you up about helping to lower the fees for Leoflaed and Glaedwine. Your only choices here would be to attack the smugglers or pay the price, so take the former option to not give away your hard-earned money. Report back to the couple to help them escape.

Rewards: Softwood Branch x10, Pelt x10, Paradisan Ladder x2, and Iron Chunk x10.

    Turn Them In

If what the couple had done didn’t sit right with you, then you can report them to Captain Aelfyr. You can find the Captain in Paradis Hightown, near God’s Gate. Talk to her and tell her about your findings, and the side quest will end. Leoflaed and Glaedwine will be arrested, and you might get some regular rewards for your trouble.

    Rewards: XP and Currency

    Which Option Should You Pick

It is best to help Leoflaed and Glaedwine make their escape, so find the items they require and negotiate with the smugglers. You get a greater reward outcome for this, so it is highly worth it. But that’s not all, you will encounter the couple later in the story, in Shatterscarp. Speaking to them will help you get the Gambeson of the Grand Empire unique light armor. This armor provides +3% Damage Reduction and +15% Reload Speed, which is great if you have a gun build for your Envoy.

The choices you make in Avowed will impact your gameplay in some way or the other, and there are several such tough decisions to make in the game. You can check out our guide on whether you should kill or spare Ygwulf to know what you should do when presented with this choice.
