While exploring the world of Avowed, you will find several quest markers on your map that you can pick up. These will lead you to NPCs who require some help, and most of the time you do end up with some pretty good rewards for your trouble. Once you reach the Emerald Stair, you can pick up a quick side quest called the Memory of the Deep, and there is a small choice to make at the end of it. In this guide, we will explain how to complete the Memory of the Deep quest in Avowed.
How To Start The Memory Of The Deep Quest In Avowed

To start the Memory of the Deep side quest, make your way to Coastal Farms in Emerald Stair region. You can find the Coastal Farms in Maxim’s Claim, just south of the Farmer’s Market. Over here, you get to encounter Josep Abaccio, and talking to him will start the quest. Another way to start the quest is to head over to Lake Lacuna, which is near The Wildwoods just west of Fior Mes Iverno. Once you reach the docks, you will find the Giftbearer who will start the quest, and you can get your next objective from him.
Retrieve the Meteorite From the Lake

Talking to either Josep or the Giftbearer will lead you to investigate Lake Lacuna to find out about a strange occurrence happening within. Before you advance, pick up the Wolf Unique Armor from a chest nearby. Now, you can dive right in and retrieve a Mysterious Meteorite, which seems to be what is triggering the Revenants to flock towards the lake.
While diving underwater, make sure to keep an eye on your breath meter so you don’t run out of air. You don’t have to dive too deep, as the meteorite is easy to spot. After you pick it up, you will be promptly attacked by all nearby Revenants once you emerge from the water. Defeat them all, then you will be presented with a choice.
Give the Meteorite to Josep or the Giftbearer

Give the Meteorite to Josep
Giving the Mysterious Meteorite to any of the quest givers will give you different reward outcomes. If you visit Josep back at Coastal Farms, he will come to the conclusion that this is the object inviting all the Revenants to the lake. You can hand over the meteorite to Josep, but you will also find him dead the next time you visit Coastal Farms. The rewards you get will be 550 Skeyt and Chanter’s Panpipes Amulet, which summons a phantom to fight alongside in battle. This skill can be accessed through the ability wheel.
Give the Meteorite to the Giftbearer
If you would rather give the meteorite to the Giftbearer, then you will only receive 550 Skeyt and 4,590 XP. You can find him at Fior mes Iverno Docks, and handing over the item will end the quest without much else. But there is another option that you can get from the Giftbearer, and that is to exchange a memory instead of handing over the meteorite.
There are certain dialog options that you need to pick, and you can get these dialogs once you refuse to hand over the meteorite to him. You get to keep the meteorite, which you can then hand over to Josep if you wish to get the amulet, and you will still get the XP and Skeyt from the Giftbearer.
Which Option Should You Choose?

In terms of claiming all the rewards within this quest, it is best to exchange a memory instead of the meteorite with the Giftbearer. That way, you can head back to Josep and give him the meteorite for the rewards, and you get the rewards from the Giftbearer too for completing the quest. There is no advantage in keeping the meteorite for yourself, as this is a quest item and cannot be sold. So your quest will remain unmarked till you make a choice.
When you visit the Giftbearer’s location at a later time, you will find a Statuette of Lament on the docks of the lake. Equipping this item will increase your breathing capacity underwater by 100%, which is a super important item to own and will help you during the later parts of the game. You can also find the Statuette of Lament if you hand over the meteorite instead of a memory to the Giftbearer, but you won’t find anything if you hand over the meteorite to Josep without exchanging words with the Giftbearer first.
There are no consequences to your choice after completing the Memory of the Deep quest in Avowed, but some choices do have major consequences to the storyline. Choices like whether to kill Ygwulf can make an impact to your game’s ending, so do check out our guide on it to know more.
