After completing the introduction and making it to Atelier during the Survey Prop Work questline, you will unlock the Synthesis along with the crafting option in Atelier Yumia. It can get overwhelming to figure out the process of Synthesis and its impact on the game. Here we are going to break everything down about Synthesis in Atelier Yuma to get a clear understanding of its importance in the game.
Synthesis Process Guide
Taking one look at the Synthesis system might not feel as difficult, but once you dig a bit deeper you will find out how extensive the system is. Since the mechanics behind Synthesis can be a bit complicated, here is a breakdown of every system part of the Synthesis process.
- Synthesis Variety
- Selecting Skills for the Synthesis Process
- Selecting Proper Alchemy Core
- Adding Proper Resonances
- Recipes
- Unlocking and Leveling Up the Recipes
- Rank Details of Ingredients
- Skill Tree Details Affecting Synthesis Process
Synthesis Variety

The Synthesis system allows you to create brand-new weapons, items, and more by merging ingredients found in the game. The system is divided into:
- Regular Synthesis: This kind of Synthesis will require Alchemist’s Altar to carry out crafting: Armor, Weapons, Battle equipment, and Magical items.
- Simple Synthesis: You can access Simple Synthesis via the radial menu. Here you can craft bandages, gauntlets, ladders, repair kits, and more.
- Building Synthesis: You access the crafting Synthesis from the radial menu but only on specific lands.
All three synthesis systems are different but they deal with crafting in one form or the other. Out of all three, Regular crafting follows a unique system and more complicated navigation to manage its uses.
Selecting Skills for the Synthesis Process

Interact with the Altar and you will see three options:
- Synthesis
- Item Rebuilding
- Guided Synthesis
Click on Synthesis, now every recipe that you see in the menu will have a list of Core Ingredients on the right panel with the list of Activated Effects. We must gather the Core Ingredients required for the recipe to craft it.
- After choosing the Recipe, you will move on to the Synthesis skill list. When you are starting out in the game, you will not see a whole lot of skills here. Just pick the one that fits your playstyle.
- Each skill here will have its skill orb cost, while skills such as ATK HP, or DEF Multiplier will ask for one skill orb, other skills such as Enhance Stockpiles or Boost Quality will ask for three skill orbs attached to them.
Note: You must progress through the story and upgrade the Skill Tree points to unlock the skills on the list. The cost of the Synthesis skills will be around 100 skill points.
You also have the option to skip the Skill selection and jump straight into the next phase. After choosing the proper skill, proceed to the next phase.
Selecting Proper Alchemy Core

Alchemy Core will have a heavy influence on the item’s quality and list of special effects. Initially, you will have access to only one core, but you will gain the option more later in the game. Once the Alchemy Core is unlocked, it will be available for all the recipes you have unlocked in your game.
Now you have to select the proper Alchemy Core for the Synthesis. If your item is at a lower level, you will see less Alchemy Core on the item. You will encounter different Cores in the recipe.
- Effects Alchemy Core: Enables special effects to the Synthesized item. Equipment will receive the special effects and for ingredients, the effect is triggered once they are activated.
- Trait Alchemy Core: Only designed for equipment, allows for more Trait Crystals Slots. Basically enables you to add even more effects to your types of equipment.
- Quality Alchemy Core: Just simply raises the item’s overall quality. (Unlocks after getting Quality Trait)
When you are starting out in the game, you will have only access to one Alchemy Core. Quality Alchemy Core will unlock after you obtain Quality Trait, the rest can be unlocked after upgrading the recipe. Once you upgrade the recipe to Unlock Effect, it will result in helping you gain access to the new Alchemy Core.
Adding Proper Resonances

After selecting the proper Alchemy Core for your recipe, the next process is to insert the Core Ingredient. While some recipes might demand a specific item as their Core Ingredient, others will want you to add an item from a certain category. Here you can opt out of using a Rank S Core Ingredient to get better benefits than choosing a lower-tier ingredient.
After you have chosen the Core Ingredient, the next step on the line is the process of Resonance. This acts as a way to make the Core Ingredient more powerful in the recipe. Here you will see the Core Ingredient in the middle surrounded by two or three empty nodes. If you look a bit closer, you will also see yellow sparks around the ingredients. Each one of these nodes and sparks has a value to the Core Ingredient in the middle.
Why Focus on Resonances? After you add in the proper Core ingredient for the recipe you can further add more ingredients to the list to get better results. If you want to improve the enhancement, adding more ingredients to the Core Ingredient will be the key to success here.

Adding an Item to the Node: You will see empty nodes around the Core Ingredients, sometimes the slots will demand specific ingredient types to apply the effect. For example, you might see an ice Slot under the Enhancement requirements in the Slot. Here adding any Ice Ingredient will apply the effect listed under it.
When you fill the node with an item, the overall Resonance will increase. The blue circle from the added item in the node will also see an increase. If the item added to the node is powerful, then the blue circle will easily reach out to other nodes in the Core Ingredient’s vicinity or more golden stars around it. So what are those golden stars or yellow sparks around the Core Ingredient?
Collecting Mana: The Core Ingredient will have golden stars or Mana around it, here resorting to using a specific ingredient will make the Resonance expand to an even bigger area helping us collect the mana to raise the Mana value. Collecting more mana around the Core Ingredient will result in obtaining better effects.
The system has two different types of mana forms
- Condensed mana; You will receive up to 10 mana at once.
- Eternal Mana: You can collect this mana more than once.
Tip: Leveling up the Recipe will also add in extra node slots around the Core Ingredient and you will also gain access to more mana stars floating around it. Extra slots may come with their own Enhancement requirements just like the default one. It may ask for an Air slot or another Ice Slot. Using proper ingredients will activate the effect and level up your Resonance.
Note: Auto-add ingredients might feel like an optimal choice to add in the best items automatically. But we will recommend choosing to do the adding process manually for the best outcomes.
Collecting mana should be the only focus here, make sure to upgrade the recipe first to enable more nodes around the Core Ingredient. Then add the best quality items around the ingredients to cover more Mana stars around it. This will greatly enhance the quality and resonance of the Core Ingredient.
If the node has a special requirement, make sure to add the specific element to gain additional Resonance. Which will amplify the blue circle around the node helping you capture more mana around the Core Ingredient.
Note: Mana is shared between all the cores, Resonance does not carry the process of sharing. Resonance only affects individual cores.
Recipes

Since our focus will be on crafting, we must learn recipes to craft the equipment that works for us. Recipes will help us a long way in the Synthesis system, they will help us learn new items and also the process of leveling up them. Just like in the real world, all the recipes will be different from each other and so will be their Core Ingredient requirement.
Learning Recipes
Progressing through the main storyline, completing certain activities, special requests or pioneering efforts will reward you with new recipes. To unlock and level up the recipe, you must make use of the Recipe Recall Station.
Most of the recipes will come from the Recipe Recall Station. You will need particles of different varieties to level up and unlock recipes in the game. The particles in the game are all color-graded.
- Rage – Red
- Sorrow – Blue
- Joy – Yellow
- Delight – Green
You will have access to small particles (small-tier), medium particles (medium-tier), and large particles (high-tier). The icons on the high-tier particle will have a large image of a small-tier particle. You will need plenty of particles to handle recipes in the game.
Process to Obtain High-Tier Particles

The best way to obtain particles would be to unlock Particle Gathering 1 under the skill tree. Unlocking the skill allows you to obtain low to medium-level particles while particle gathering. Once you unlock Particle Gathering II on the skill tree, which is at the bottom of the skill tree, you will obtain large particles.
Large and medium particles should be paid the most amount of attention. The game does offer Particle Conversion but it only creates medium and small scale particles.
- You can turn one medium particle into 5 small particle
- Turn one large particle into 5 medium particles.
You can’t turn 5 medium particles into one large particle or 5 small particles into medium ones.
Unlocking/ Upgrading Recipes
After you unlock a recipe via the Recipe Recall system, the next phase of unlocks will come in the form of an upgrade. The first rank is about unlocking the recipe, the next rank will be about upgrading them with different effects. You will find 10 Ranks under every item, the first rank will always be about unlocking it.
Each rank will add effects such as High quality, more quantity, add slot, add effect, and more. Unlocking the recipe is the first phase of the system, you should also spend the particles leveling them to the highest caliber. Every recipe will have its own variation of unlocks built for them.
Rank Details of Ingredients
Every ingredient will come with a rank, which will determine the effect of the ingredient. The rank system also comes with different categories, it will go from Rank E to Rank S. Rank S being the best quality item compared to Rank E.
Head to Skill Tree, in the Exploration tab, and choose to upgrade the Gathering tree to level up the rank of gatherable ingredients. Reaching the final tier of the Gathering skill tree will allow you to earn Rank S ingredients.
How does the Item’s Rank Matter?
Ranking of items introduces new effects to the crafting. Lower quality (Rank E) will have low Resonance quality. But when you switch to a higher quality item (Rank S), it will have over 100 quality and 6 Resonance.
Skill Tree Upgrade Affecting Synthesis Process

Head over to the Skill System under the Synthesis tab, you will find Quality Control. Unlocking Quality Control allows your quality to reach the limit of 100. Following that specific tree will land you on High-Quality Synthesis IV, which further raises the limit to 999.
When you are starting out in the game, just focus on getting the 300-item number, you can focus on the latter end of the skill tree once you reach the end game. Most move it to the post-game gameplay scenarios. By the time you reach the fourth area, having a 700 synthesizing item will be favorable.
