All New R.E.P.O Upgrades Explained – How They Work

The v0.3.0 Monster Update in R.E.P.O. introduces two new upgrades to choose from for your next run. While these upgrades may seem insignificant, they offer a unique gameplay experience, especially for solo players. With the appropriate strategy, these upgrades can be utilized more efficiently. This guide details what they are and how to use them in R.E.P.O.

How Does Tumble Climb Work in R.E.P.O

The Tumble Climb upgrade functions much like a grapple hook. After equipping it, your crosshair turns blue. To activate the upgrade, approach any surface while tumbling, aim at it, and press the action/interact key to launch an invisible thread. This pulls you upward, making you unreachable by monsters. Use this ability to reach inaccessible areas and improve your chances of escaping.

Each time you use the Tumble Climb ability, it consumes stamina and requires sufficient strength to keep you up for extended periods. Upgrading this ability reduces the amount of stamina lost and improves the strength to keep you lifted. If you let go of the Tumble Climb, you will fall to the ground and create a sound. This should be kept in mind if you wish to avoid alerting enemies, especially the Huntsman.

If used with the Tumble Grab ability, items can be grabbed while tumbling. The best use of the Tumble Grab is to grab weapons or items that are out of reach, especially when being chased by monsters. You can also use this ability to grab monsters and toss them around.

How Does Death Head Battery Work in R.E.P.O

The Death Head Battery is useful for co-op and multiplayer modes and is not recommended for solo play. Upon your death, you will turn into a talking battery if you have the Death Head Possession ability. Initially, after dying, the player will spot a blue head with closed eyes in the right-hand corner of the screen. The eyes will start to open as they get charged. It takes 100 seconds to completely charge the Death Head Battery.

Once fully charged, the Death Head Possession can be used as a walkie-talkie to communicate with teammates. Each time you use the Death Head, it consumes a lot of stamina, and the only way to recharge the battery is to wait it out. Further upgrades will reduce the time taken to recharge and improve stamina consumption, keeping the Death Head alive for longer.

Additionally, you gain mobility, enabling you to jump and run more easily. Use the Death Head to get up to vantage points and guide your teammates, or lure monsters away from your friends in R.E.P.O.
